Hi, i bought a leopard gecko about 2 weeks ago and somethings wrong with it... it wont eat, barely moves and just lays there waiting to die... its very skinny and its tail looks like a toothpick, very slim the guy at the pet store where i bought it says its normal, told me to throw in some crickets and wait a couple days... it cant be normal if i dont do anything it'll die for sure its soo skinny... i havent found any dropings in the cage since i got it... temperature in the cage is stable, humidity stable too it has water calcium bowl and everything it needs...

Need help asap!

Thanks alot!

Could be crypto? I had a friend that had the same problem, But his leo had a black belly, and eventually died. He took it to the vet and they ran test and it was positive for cypto. You should take that leo back and get your money back, and tell that sales man a thing or too!! Was it skinny when you bought it? maybe your crix are to big? is it a baby or an adult? I have seen at many of the petstores around my area with herps that look like this, and when they die they just replace them with out changing the the enclosure and just keeping the cycle going?

yeah you should the petstores around here will sell and tell you anything to get you to buy. And get rid of the enclosure you have them in, so if you get some more leo's they won't get sick too. Try some online dealers I have only bought from one so far and I bought an albino leo for $16 about 3 months ago and it is doing great. You should buy a leopard gecko book or do some research online to see what a "healthy leo" should look like. I am just a beginner so maybe someone with more experience can help you out more, it might not be crypto but It sounds like it is sick and you should take it back. Try xtremereptiles.com when you buy more leo's Good luck!!!

before u take it back have someone confirm it's really crypto cause the black spot u see might be its internal organs which are visible through skin. also the pet stores from what i know only feed their animals crickets. try putting your leo on a different diet like small meal worms. i have a leo that only eats worms and ignores crix. good luck!

Why does everyone always suspect crypto???? 99% of the time it's not crypto. Right now i would worry that it's not eating and laying around all the time. You should take the leo to the vet and have a fecal test ran and ask the vet to take a look. The most likely cause is probly an internal parasite that the vet can give you meds fors. Depending on what internal parasite he/she may have will determine the medication you could recieve. If and i'm saying IF it is crypto there is nothing you can do to save the life of that leo. You can however go after the store for the cost of the animal and vet bills for knowingly selling you a sick leo. Other than that get this leo to a vet ASAP!!!!!!

Thanks for all the replies, I brought the leo back to the pet store, the guy there said its stomach was blocked, they knew it was sick when they sold it to me everybody in the store was told not to sell it but one of them didnt understand and sold it to me... The owner of the store wouldnt stop telling me how sorry he was then he gave me my money back and gave me a very healthy baby blizzard for free hehe Aint too bad of a deal :) Ill send a couple pictures of my new baby later this week

Thanks again!
