View Full Version : Heating
Hi, I was just wondering if you use the undertank heating pad and a bulb for heating the tank or is the light just for lighting..

You can use UTH or heat lamps(the red bulbs). The regualr bulbs do not do much for heat, but regulate the day/night changes for reptiles.

do you need anything to heat them at night. and what wattage bulb would you use for heating a 10 galleon?
u can drop the temp down a lil at night to the high 70s (around 90 during the day).. for a ten gallon (standard dimensions i'm assuming) a 25watt works fine for bout 88 degree temp. u might want a red light bulb so u can watch them walk around at night since they're nocturnal
So just have a bulb during the day to heat it to around 90 and room temp at night is ok?

You need to heat only one side of the cage at all times. For a 10 gallon I would use a 50 watt red heat lamp, and switch to a 25-40 watt blue or black light for night. Be sure to buy a digital thermometer (any home supply/building supply store) to make sure the hot side is between 87-90 degrees and the cool side is around 77-82 degrees, a little drop at night is good. Night time temps can remain in the 72-75*range on the hot side.

All you need is an uth on one side of the tank. The night drop should be able to hapen on its own because the temp of the room will prolly drop at night. If the temp doesn't drop down at night you can either turn it down a couple of degrees with a rheostat or you can buy a thermostat with built in night drop that automatically drops the temp. for you.
