Hello. Just an introduction. I started my fascination with snakes as a favor to a friend of mine. I started out keeping his 2 ball pythons while he went out to sea with the navy. He was supposed to be gone for a few weeks, then we went to war and was gone for nine months. At first I was just feeding them as a favor, but the more I was forced to interact with them, the more I started thinking I needed to get one of my own. Shortly after he got back, he told me he wasn't sure what he was going to do with them because he was moving and his landlord was scared they'd eat his dog. I then offered to take them since I was more attached than he was. I've recently found out that they aren't ball pythons at all (I thought they looked wierd). They are some king of boas. A guy at the last local herp show said that by my description they were columbian red-tail boas. I'm still trying to figure out how to tell exactly. There seem to be a few types of boas that look a lot alike. If anyone can help I'd sure appreciate it.
Yep, that looks like a colombian red-tailed boa to me! And a very gorgeous one at that!!

Welcome to ssnakess, and you are right, that is not a ball, it is a boa constrictor. most likely a columbian boa constrictor. Post a bigger pic in the boa forums, and we will be more than happy to verify it for you!

Welcome to sSnakeSs and you have a nice looking BCI (Boa Constrictor Imperator); which is another name for your Columbian Red-Tail. :)

I've posted some better pictures of him in the gallery. There are some marks on his head above his eyes. When i got the snakes they both had marks like this, but they are almost completely gone on the other one. Elwood still has his though. Could someone take a look and tell me if I should be worried. I'd sure appreciate it.
Welcome to ssnakess! Yup, those are definitely redtails, as has been pointed out. Real nice ones too!
