Hey, can anyone tell me the dosing for Baytril? We have to treat a sick Cane and the formula has ran away from us. One of our male Canes seems to have developed scale rot on his belly.

Well, for my 700g mex blk king, my vet prescribed .10ml of Baytril every other day for 7 treatments. But that was for an RI.

*Note: These are NOT recommendations, they are what I was prescribed my a licensed vet. I won't be held responsible if the above dosage is used and any harm is cause. Just in case. ;)

Thanks,

For RI in a canebrake I used 10 mg/kg for the first dose, and 5 mg/kg for followup doses. Total of 4 doses given every other day. I used to do a subcu injection but my herp vet suggested an IM injection given in the meat along the spine in the first third of the body.

I have heard reports of Baytril having detrimental effects on Crotalus, but I have never run into any probs.

For scale rot, first thing is to clean the cage and decrease the humidity. I believe that you can also soak it in an iodine solution to help it. I would use baytril unless there is a secondary infection. It is amazing what the right cage conditions and a shed or two can do for a snake.

Oh and of course some Neosporin (not pain relief formula)

The first thing we did is soaked the snake in warm water and Nolvasan. We took the water out of the snakes slide and used newspaper for the substrate. The scale rot runs from head to rattle and developed very quickly. A friend of ours that has dealt with this before suggested Baytril IM. Well, you know Tony.

Wow, scale rot on a crotalid??? Keeping it alittle too wet....... It should not develope that fast........ Well I have seen some scale rot on some imported gaboons and the thing that worked well for me was a yellow powder that is used to treat scale fungus, hole in the head and other scale related problems in fish....... Soke them in a solution of this stuff every other day until it sheds and it stops scale rot in its tracks.......

It is odd to me too because it is not humid nor wet. We keep them on newspaper with an enclosed water source (so they can't tip it). We are gonna dose him tonight. Finally got our vet yesterday evening and got the dosage. Appreciate the help and suggestions.

Hey Fatboy,
I hope everything turns out good for your Cane........ You will see a huge difference once it sheds out........ When there is trama to a snakes skin they will shed out quicker then normal........ So hopefully you wont have to wait too long........ Keep use posted dude....

Hey, that actually does not look as bad as I thought it would be...... It looks very spotty and spaced out........ The baytril plus the next shed should take care of that....... Do you think it went under to the next layer of skin??? I have treated a few gaboons that looked way worse....... Good luck fellas....... I am sure she will be fine under yours and chucks care......

Snakes generally shed fairly quickly after injury or illness as part of the healing process.
