A few more King enclosure questions..

Ok, the frame is done.. As I read up a lilttle bit from here and there, most of the Temps and humidity ( not commonly told..) was around 85 for the temps and 80-100 percent humidity.. Does this sound right ? Plus, Ive read that there should be a good quanity of water in the enclosure, which is good- it'll the humidity, so I figured I'd add a 50-100 gallon pre-fabricated pond with a filter, maybe two to keep it nice and clean for a good few days and help the water not become stagnant. Sound good? Also, I was thinking of adding two 30" x 8" vents and small fan thing to help keep the air fresh, you think this is good as well? Am I going down a good line with these thoughts? If so, great, I do have one problem.. Im not exactly sure of how to place the lighting. Should I just hang it from the ceiling of the cage or Cut some holes? Any help and further tips is greatly appreciated. Xain

Make sure to not have it too hot in there (and to have a nice cool hidebox). For the lighting, hanging a basking light from the ceiling is fine (just so long as they of course can't reach it from anywhere). Also, don't worry too much about the humidity, you don't need to make it steaming in there, thats not necessary. A big water soak is essential though (but don't have it right under the lights so that it doesn't get too warm).

Hmmm.... I'd give them a good gradient of temperatures and let them choose where they want to hang out. Best thing for any snake of course. They do like it warm though (being from tropical Asia after all). Is the one you are getting a captive bred? If so, particularly if its very young (ie still has the baby colouring) then I'd recommend sticking it in a 20 gallon tank stuck half onto a heating pad set on minimum and packed full of damp moss. Babies need it really warm and humid. Makes sense since they would be living under leaf liter at that age.

Great, thanks.. The animal I was pose to get was a c.b 8' beast, but turns out he isnt going to be able to show up at the show, so I may buy from someone else.. Ill still build the cage, never know what will pop up.. Thanks for the information, Xain

Xain. I believe Ray is out of town this weekend but I will see him Monday night! if you want I will snap you a few pics of any kings he may have. One thing On your cage what are you going to use for the inside walls? High humidity tends to warp things .

I believe it was an Indo.. Yes, pics will be great.. Get me more motivated on the cage.. Imma' use Particle board with a sealer - keep it warp proof.

The Equatorial species found in Java and commonly imported is one of the smaller ones (max size around 11' usually) so that will make your caging requirements a bit easier (by way of comparison, the Malaysian species regularly hits 14 feet).
