Hello there,

ok, here is the deal. I work in a supermarket as the greenery guy. Well today i was filling the banana's and i saw this little spider on one of them. Its small, about 7 mm. Well im certain its a pider cause it has 8 legs. Well 6, but he is missing 2 legs on the right side. Strange thing is his 2 front legs are way fatter the other legs. But he uses them to walk too. His abdomen got white stripes and it got this greenish color on its head. Pretty cewl looking. The banana's are from columbia so i think the spider used to live there. So i have put it in a cup with some damp paper towel, cause i asume that its a forest dweller. Well, since it was on a banana, im also asuming that it is aerborail (sp) Also becuase it always wanting to go up. He looked pretty aggressive to me, cause when my finger was too close for his comfort, he raised his 2 front legs immidiatly. Was kinda fast with walking and it is alert too.

here is a pic, sorry about the quality, but he just didnt stay still :D

I hope i gave enough info, so maybe someone knows what kind of spider it is
Thanks in advance

sorry i have no idea i was just wondering is it just me or the pic but the front legs also look like they may be little claws, It's probably just how the legs are placed neat find though :)

Well, i dont think they are claws. Just legs that are bigger and fatter then the other legs

It's pretty hard to identify spiders on the net..

I found this site that has pictures similar to your spider. Look at those named "Jumping spiders".

The body shape & color is very similar. Don't know if that is what you have but it's a start!

Produce depts are a goldmine for collecting exotics of all kinds. Every grocery store around here has it's resident wierd critter catcher.

Doenoe, looks to me like one of many different "jumping spider" species. General care I would say would be a tropcial arboreal setup. They prefer hiding under the leaves of plants. That's how I used to find them back in Singapore. They dun live very long in captivity. At least the one I tried keeping. lol. Had one lie for about 2mths before croaking. Pretty easy to feed as long as you leave the prey in with them and not harass them. They are pretty wary spiders and get nervous easily. A cool thing to do would be to get a magnifying glass and count their eyes! They look cool!

Anyways, good luck with the lil bugger! Jumpers are my fav spiders!

Thanx for the replies.
I guess im just gotta find a big jar. Pop some dirt on the bottom and stick in little sticks with the leaves still on. Probably have to mist him every now and then too.
I caught a fruitfly today in my room (havent got a clue what that was doing in here) and put it in the teacup with the spider (Yes, it is in a teacup now, with the damp paper and a fruitfly :D )
I think i can make this work
Well thanks again

ps Pixie, you still got the URL of that site?

I think the "claws" that people were refering to is just the shadow of the front legs
