Do they usually get lighter with age??
mark, generally they get darker. Much darker. But she is going in the exact opposite direction of the typical IJ. She isnt showing any signs of black tipping on her scales. I couldnt be more excited about her development.

Yes they do get darker but not before getting lighter. At about 1-2 years they are bright yellow
and walnut. You have a great little IJ but I can see the single row of dark scales around the lighter scales in the pattern. This as it gets older will be black as typical of IJ's.
I have a set of pictures showing 6-7 after shed shots over about a 1.5 years of an IJ. They change so much.
Enjoy her,
MArdy
Mardy, you are wrong. I noticed alot of the candian folks really havent had any exposure to the high yellow type of IJ. They dont infact darken up. Yes typical IJs will get yellow and red and brown hues that become very light during the first couple of years, but then darken up very much. On the other hand, this wont. You dont believe me, take a look at these threads.

there are 2 adults there, and in the 2nd one, many comparison pictures of the 2 types, to help illustrate the difference.
Yes I know what you are talking about, But you
must realise that comparing a neonate to an adult
can and is misleading at best. I have seen Anthony,Yasser,Will ect. high yellows and unless
you have offpring from those lines. You will not
know until it is older. I speak from breeding
IJ's and the variableness in color and pattern
when they hatch through they're first years.
I have read those posts and saying yours will
not darken is a pretty bold statement, for one
you spent this spring asking me and others
all about IJ before you got your first one. So
you have now become IJ Yoda. Best of luck
I await pictures of her in a year.
MArdy
Im not IJ Yoda, and I was looking for one like the female that I found. She is probably around 6 months old, and so far the only shed she has had while I owned her has removed much of the black she had, which wasnt much to begin with. I gladly look forward to showing you pictures of her in 1 year, and 5 years. I know where this snake is going, and its not getting darker.

LOL...Lance you crack me up! You don't KNOW anything, you can only speculate.
Jim, only a couple weeks ago, you and many others on your forum seemed pretty sure about the potential of the animal. But I guess only time will tell. I look forward to posting pictures again in a year.

Lance, we said the animal had great POTENTIAL to become a screamer, but to tell someone that has allot more experience than you with carpets "Mardy, you are wrong." or to make statements like "I know where this snake is going" makes you look like a fool. You have owned two Irian for a month at the most, and have seen but a fraction of the currently kept specimens (there are allot of keepers that don't have computers you know). So you making statements like you’re the IJCP guru is silly. Granted it's a nice looking animal, but lets let it speak for itself in a few months instead of speculating what is going to happen. I am not attacking you, you were just a bit out of line in your approuch to this.
OK, well than I apologize for that. Thats why I say I look forward to posting pictures in due time.
You bet Lance post the pics and I hope it works out for you.
Best of luck,
Mardy
Thanks Mardy. No hard feelings. Didnt want to seem like I was stepping on anyone toes.
