I believe it important to limit access as well as prevent escapes. We use only locking cages for our hots. The best cages on the market are the ones built by Anthony Gay, but that is logistically imposable since you live so far away. For the money, I like the Neodesha Cages. Check there website. They have a 12” and 24” model that is very reasonable. They come with a screw lock on each side of the glass, but one can replace one screw with a master lock and turn it into a very safe venomous cage.

I agree with Chuck Neodesha Cages are very well constructed and have improved much since they first came out. Vision Caging is also very well made as are Dajens all acrylic cages. If you are looking for a cage for a smaller species I suggest using the dajens they are top opening with double screw downs on the lid and with a few secounds work you can easily put a master lock on them.
As far as room security. All the floor in my room is caulked and base boarded and the doors all have foam on the bottoms as well as a door sweep. the vents are sealed off and the door is locked with a master lock. The main door in to the room is also key locked so a person would need to go through 3 locks to open the cage.
I also have " Warning Live Venomous Reptile" signs on the door at 6 feet high and 3 feet high.
Below is a picture of the dejen I use for pigmy rattlers . Notice the red book on the left that is my venom protocal incase of bite. In it is the species I keep the region they come from the type of antivenom to be used , its maker and phone number of the maker. Also in it is the Miami antivenom banks number ,The Miami Serpentariums number as well as several other number of people i know stock anti venom.
There is also a very defined DNR order in there along with a direct wish order that only the people I have listed can make dissisions for me if i am unable too.On the top of the cage it is clearly marked "Live Venomous Reptile along with the Antivenom to be used incase of bite.

For anyone that needs to know, Bill Haast's number IS listed in the directory under Miami Serpentarium Labs, Punta Gorda, FL.
Bill and Nancy Haast stay VERY busy, so I would not recommend just calling them for a casual chit chat. Also, unless Nancy is unable to help you, don't expect to speak to Bill. When I was working there, Bill spent a good portion of the day in the 1.5 acre rattlesnake pit (when he was not in the lab doing extractions) in either case, he did not answer the phone, Nancy does.

Scott, Like redcarpet, I too would like to know what hots you keep, and what you have been bitten by. I read a lot of your posts, and you seem to have a lot of knowledge on hots. Is this book knowledge, or practical knowledge? Please let us all know.

I do not think there are any restrictions on cages. The company themselves will probably ship up to Canada. Call them at 866-380-3435.
