how to make a small rack system?

Hello all! I'm trying to figure out how to make a
small rack system, for housing leopard geckos. Trouble is, I'm picky. I don't like the ones made with rubbermaid containers, they just seem too utilitarian and you can't see the animals very well. Does anyone have any pics of nice looking small rack systems?

i agree most racks are unsitly and the lepords are unviewable

ive actually been building one for our webmaster this week...it is a newbie snakes set up...with rubbermaids, but it could easily be converted to a plexi glass or glass viewing system. It is an eight compartment rack, i think he is bring his camera when he comes so ill see if i can get some pics of it on the site this week end.

There are polycarbonate sweaterboxes and shoe boxes made by First Phillips. They are great if you dont like rubbermaid boxes. They are crystal clear. Jeff Ronne uses them in all his racks, and you can also buy them through Bean Farm on their own. Hope that helps a lil ;)

Sorry, those are the only places I know. I tried to track em down a while back but couldnt come up with naymore than that, and nobody else knew either, perhaps you would have better luck on that mission than I did ;)

I agree with Linds .. rubbermade or polycarbonate containers are a good choice. Here's some more evidence I found on PVC.

Toxic Releases
The Berkeley Plastics Task Force stated in a 1996 report that the
plastic industry released 14% of the most toxic industrial releases-
including styrene, benzene and dioxins- into the air. The EPA found
that 16% of all U.S. industrial accidents between 1980 and 1987-
including explosions, toxic cloud releases, chemical spills and
fires- resulted from plastic production. Benzene can cause
respiratory irritation, headaches and dizziness when inhaled.
Long-term exposure to styrene, a component of Styrofoam and a
possible hormone disruptor, can cause fatigue, nervousness and
difficulty in sleeping. Dioxins are known carcinogens and probable
human hormone disruptors.

PVC: The Poison Plastic
PVC, or polyvinyl chloride, plastic contains nonylphenol ethoxylates
(NPE's), also used in styrene-based plastics, and phthalates. In the
late 1980's, Drs. Ana Soto and Carlos Sonnenschein of Tufts Medical
School inadvertently discovered that p-nonylphenol, an NPE, caused
breast cancer cells, stored in test tubes containing polystyrene, to
proliferate. Ninety percent of all phthalates are used in the
production of soft PVC, used for shower curtains, hospital I.V.
drips and blood bags, and miniblinds. "Phthalates are the most
abundant pollutant in the environment," says Charlie Gray of
Greenpeace. Phthalates, because they're not chemically bonded to the
plastic structure of PVC, can migrate to its surface. In addition,
the manufacture and incineration of PVC produces dioxin, and PVC's
components can include heavy metals, such as lead and cadmium. "PVC
is the poison plastic, partly because so many toxic additives must
be added to give it the properties desired in the final product,"
says Cray, "PVC products can offgas toxic fumes."

i just noticed today at zellers that they have storage racks there some even have diferent size drawers they are plastic and very clear!! some are very big drawers there is 4-6 drawers in each but you could easily stack them then put some heat tape on a piece of peg board or something, drill a few holes in the drawers for air anw presto a nice simple yet easy to veiw into rack they run about 35-40 bucks but you wouldnt have to build anything and there light wieght IMO they would work awsome!:D
