ok, i checked Ming's list of toxic plants, and i did not see Aloe plants on the good list or on the bad list. so, maybe i'll go get some pothos. whatever that is. and get organic soil with no vermiculite or perlite in it.

Aloe has some potent purgatives and some natural steroids that both stimulate and suppress the immune systems. It's only toxic in large quantity but you never really know when a herp will get bored and decide to trash his environment so I don't risk it. I've seen a number of deaths due to dehydration after severe diarrhea from aloe overdose.

Thanks, Eyespy. that is good to know. i will forget about the aloe plant.

i got two little pothos and a palm/fern, but i won't put the fern in until i learn if it is toxic or not. it did not come with a tag, so i have no idea, but i am researching to find out what it is.

i went to a garden center and got some organic soil with no vermiculite or perlite. then i took the pothos plants and shook out all the soil that they had which was full of vermiculite. then i rinsed the whole bunch in cool water to rinse off all the soil and any residue. then replanted the two small plants into one pot, b/c i know plants do better if they can touch the leaves of another plant of their own kind, so hopefully the pothos will grow well in the tank. and if this fern/palm whatever is safe, i'll give it organic dirt, too. this tank is going to look great, but cleaning the tank is not going to be a small job. :D

I have a silk palm, potho's, josephs Coat, Umbrella Tree and a cane plant...my Cresties have been with them for about 4 weeks. I have noticed the humidity levels are higher, the plants are thriving and my Cresties seem love them. They like to hide in the leaves, and drink the water off of leaves. All the above are safe.

There are factors we have to consider about toxic plants..are they outer leaves toxic..or if injested

or what i do when i want a plant is go to White Rose with the scientific name and ask them to find it for me

i am sure if you ingest any part of it is toxic

little dragon, I wouldn't panic but I would consider switching to a known "safe" plant.
