I need to get a rheostat. The one I've found is rather expensive and I'll have to order it over the computer which I'd rather not do. I've been told that you can get a dimmer that works the same way from lowes or home depot or somewhere like that, but I don't know what to look for. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

just make sure to try it on a lamp or something first when it is done to make sure it works properly.
