What is an appropriate size tank for a adult Carpet Python? Thanks Dave!

i think the rule of thum is the snakes longest length sholud be equall to length and width of the viv, so for a 4meter snake it sholud be at least 2m X 2m or 1m X 3m.
I dont know about the specifics of carpet pythons, but thats what i hear;)

Depends on the species of Carpet. They are NOT all the same.

Well thats what I read, not sure where but it makes sense to me(unless its a tree dwelling speices). Although snakes need to be able to stretch out once in a while as they only have one functional lung, and if kept in cramped spaces it can encrease the risk of Respiratory Infection.
Why, lordovacs what would you have thought?
I only said 4 meters coz thats about the maximum a carpet can grow, there are a lot of smaller types.

Not ALL snakes have one functioning lung! Some have one, some have two but the second is extremely small and sometimes not functional, but some do have two, that's what I have been told.

oh ok, all have two but in most its only a small "stub", either way there always elongated and still need to be able to stretch out fully once in a while;)
srry lordavacs, I just thought you might kow of a dirrefernt rule, or have a different view. Inmo the snake should really be able to stretch out fully in its own tank, but none of mine are this long (but do fit in to the "two sides" rule);)

I was thinking of getting a smaller species such as IJ or JCP, What is the required size tank for these? I dont get that rule what does the M stand for? meter? Thanks Again!

the M stands for metre i believe.
I think a 4x2x4 would be perfect for an adult.

The absolute minimum I would go is 3x2x2 for an adult IJCP, and if it doesn't seem to be very aboreal(which you wouldn't know until after you get the snake) you could slim the height down to 12 inches.

I might even go 3 feet High, 3 feet long, and 2 feet deep...I think that would be great. gives 6 feet squared on the base, which is good, and 3 feet high would allow for a nice shelf half way up... or if not a shelf, some dowels/branches. agree with andy that it doesn't NEED so much height if it spends most time on the ground, but give it the chance anyway, cause most do spend some time off the ground, esp. on a shelf! yeah, M stands for metre, but 4 metres isn't necessary for an IJCP..perhaps for a 12 foot coastal, but def. not an IJ.
