Black rat snake

I have one in the crawl space under my house. He is getting in thru a hole outside the house. What can I do to get rid of him? I hate to kill him, but just can't have him under the house or in the attic. Any suggestions?

my best suggestion would be to catch him and release a ways away from the house (really far because if he's made himself a niche he'll try his hardest to get back home)
