Hey all,
I have a question about my BCC's shedding. A couple of days ago, his eyes were fogged up, and he looked like he was going into shed. Last night, I checked on him, and his eyes were completely clear, but there was absolutely no shedding anywhere in his terrarium. So, we fed him.
Is it possible for a snake to just change its mind about shedding? I know how nuts that sounds, but when I saw clear eyes and no shedding, even when I dug for it, I was more than a bit confused...

It can take about a week after clearing up for a boa to actually shed... Is this your boas first shed with you?

Yes it is. I guess I'm used to my corns.. when they clear up, the shedding is right away.
So, having fed my BCC a rat last night, will this affect his shedding? Or rather, will him shedding affect his digestion?

He should be fine. Some of my snakes will eat at any point in their shed cycle and others won't. Both will still shed properly... :)
Good luck with the boa! :D

That's completely normal. I wouldn't try feeding your snake until the shed is complete. From the time the eyes fog over until the actual shed is usally about 7 days. During that time the eyes will fog over for a few days...then clear up for a few days...then shed. It doesn't hurt to spray the enclosure daily with some nice spring water from walmart during this time. I've had great sheds with my BCC ever since I started doing that. I just buy the cheapest there is (like 53 cents a gallon U.S.).

Why spring water? What effects does spring water produce that normal tap water wouldn't?

Spring water doesn't contain chlorine and possible added flourides that tap water has (among other nasty things). You can get away with spraying with tap water, but spring water is best for them to drink. Whatever you do, never offer distilled water (it will suck any and all essential mineralsout of there system = BAD!)
