Im thinking on getting a snake some time late this year but dont know what i should go with a Dumerils Boa or a Bull Snake. im thinking i want to go with the Dumerils Boa because i have one and i was planing on getting it for breeding in the near 2-3 years but i also want to get a bull because there awsome looking snake and they fit my personality well and i have been i love with them for about as long as i could remember... i just dont know what one would be better over all..

for a first breeder, I'd go with the bull. No sense not getting some experience first, besides the bull/goffer/pine group has some great morphs now and will give some breeding (though not boa breeding) skills along the way.

I second that go with what you love you will stand a better chance of breeding it because it means so much to you not just for the sake of breeding it. If it were me I'd go for the Dum's just cuz I think they are so cool.

Just from the practical side of things - if you have a Dumerils now and you have had only or predominately boids - before you get a bullsnake be prepared for the difference in metabolic rate. While they likely don't rival indigos for volume, bull snakes produce very abundant feces very often. People who are used to a boa going once every couple weeks are often dismayed by the amount of poo a bull snake can generate in a week! They are also very active and I think they need a larger cage than a comparable length boid to accomodate that. Their personaliites are great though, lots of bluff and even some attitude to back it up.
Best of luck on your choice,

I say get both ;). But hey, if it's only the choice of one it'd be tough for me to chose too. I agree with everyone else... a bullsnake is an awesome snake and they sure have neat personalities compared to what you're used to.
If you are actually planning on breeding something I think live-bearers are easier just because you don't have to worry about incubating eggs. I'm going to hopefully breed my BCI's next year at some point when the female gets bigger. She's going through an awesome growth spurt right now, and sheds almost every 2 weeks. But if you find a love for bullsnakes then good luck to you!! I can't wait to see it when you get it :D
