These have come out of hibernation in the last few weeks. Beautiful sankes, We are lucky enough to have a den where they hibernate on our property. Thought some of you might enjoy these pics, this one was a little shy of 4'.

Gorgeous! That's a species I've never seen before and I sure wouldn't mind seeing more pics if you have them.

I would be curious to know if anyone is serioulsy working with them, (I do not, in case anyone was wondering) They are protected here in Canada, Im not sure about in the US though. Beautiful snakes though.

I've only seen them on Pelee Island, which I will be visiting on the May lon weekend. These are fantastic looking animals.

I hope someone can captive breed them they are incredable! I have never seen one before. They look exotic. If you hadn't told me you found it in your yard I would have thought it was imported. It goes to show some native species are just as good looking as some foreign ones. Very cool!:D Thanks for sharing. How big do they get?

Eastern fox snakes are protected to some degree throughout their very limited range (Ontario, Michigan, and Ohio). There are not many legal captive specimens in Ontario, particularly in private collections. They are bred in the US in small numbers, and sometimes show up in US classifieds on various websites. They aren't typically very expensive, just hard to find.

Hopefully we'll see a few more on Pelee next weekend!
