Does anyone have any information on the Blotched Anaconda? I was watching a show and said there is a third species of the anaconda other than the Yellow or Green called the blotched anaconda located in parts of Brazil. I did a google search and came up with nothing. Thanks everyone.

Hmmm this interesting because I heard that the two species were hybridizing(if thats a word).
Maybe the hybrid is called this crazy name. Other than that all i know is that there are
two types.

I have seen cb intergraded green/yellows available for sale. I'm sure they're doing it in the wild too. They look blotchy... maybe this is what they were referring to? :)

I dont know if the blotched are the hybrid because of the fact that the blotched are farther north east of south america in the French Guianna while the yellow is strictly farther south located by paraguay, central brazil, bolivia and parts of Argentinia. I would just think that if they are the hybrid it would be where the yellow and the Green are sharing the same territory but its not. Im not ruling out the possibility that it isnt a hybrid because it still very well could be that they may of been released up there and started breeding. Good thoughts though both of you that could be the case.

That is kind of strange, the new breed is new to me also. Good luck in your search.

E. deschauenseei, dark spotted anaconda
E.murinus this has 2 sub-species E.m.murinus and E.m. gigas, they are the northern and southern anaconda

Thanks for the information paul. I love Anaconda's to death although they are extremely deadly. I dont think that just anyone should own one because they are very dangerous and get extremely large. You have to be completely dedicated to be able to care for one especially when they get full grown, where they require a huge inhabitance, huge food for there huge size, and mostly nasty temper. Although all of that said I do own a green anaconda and love her to death. Keep up the good posts everyone

Actually you missed notaeus, the yellow anaconda. Also E. beneinsis was described as recently as 2002 as a bolivian subspecies. But I don't believe that has been accepted yet either. I have a fair pic of E. deschauenseei, I will try to find it and post it tomorrow.

Eunectes barbouri isn't a valid species, it is just a variant of E. murinus. Although E. deschauenseei inhabits Marajo Island, and also the French Guiana. The blotched anaconda has a different scale pattern from any other anacondas, and obviously pattern as well. There is cross breeding of yellows and greens, in the wild but these aren't blotched anacondas.
