I recently took in a kenyan sand boa from a friend who did not really take care of him. I'm told he is about 3-4 years old. The problem is is he's probably only 6 inches long to me, and extremely skinny and small head. They fed him very small amounts once in a blue moon..and his uth that they had used was a heating pad, never water or definitely not clean water, and they had used sand. I switched him to a tank with a correct reptile UTH and a low wattage heat bulb creating about 89 degrees, with eco coconut fiber. They used to feed him live pinkies...I switched him to f/t, and he ate 3 pinkies first night I had him, and he definitely looks better.. but any tips? i'm normally a ball python guy. I know sand boa's normally stay smaller.. but for him being supposedly 3+ years old, I don't believe he should be this small still. maybe impacted from the sand.. and they're random small erratic feeding?

Probably more So the laclnof feeding than the sand. Sand boas are built to handle sand ingestion better than some other species. He may forever stay small if he is that size at that age. Just keep up what you're doing though and you should be fine.

Actually, just offer 1 pinky. 3 might be a bit much for regular feeding.

Pics please!

I will be lowering the the amount fed, I just know he had not been fed in a LONG time.

Male KSB are usually between 25 and 40cm long when adult. 6 inches (15cm) is very very small. They don't need much food, one feeding of appropriate size every 2 weeks is enough, but on pinkies they'd take 2-3 pinkies readily.

Add some water to his enclosure, don't keep KSB too dry, people seem to think they are from the desert or something, which isn't correct. Impaction is unlikely, but can be caused by piss poor husbandry, keep the snake at correct temps, provide water, keep humidity at about 50% though it's ok if it drops to 30% from time to time.

Ps. if he poops he isn't constipated.
