don't know what to do

hello,
I Might be going down to Mississippi this summer, and I know they have a lot of great snakes and other herps down there but I’ve never done any field stuff before and I don’t know what I should do, I don’t want to go with a tour group or should I??? all I wanna do is see some great snakes and take lots of pics :)
