I didn't go with the SD retic :(. I decided on this very handsome 2016 male Olive Python :). He was produced by Jeff Hartwig and is scheduled for delivery early next week if the weather permits. I'm super excited to work with this species and plan to add an albino python in the next year or two. Does this count as my first giant? :)

YOU'RE DEAD TO ME, THE TREACHERY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pretty cool looking snake, haven't heard of it before. Looks like they grow longer then average SD certainly bigger then males. I'll let the other giant keepers chime in if you get to join the club ;) Post some pics of the new addition when it arrives.

Speaking of albinos...I've also secured this gem from Bill Steagal at Phoenix Reptiles. She's scheduled to arrive week after next. Y'all know I can't get enough of my carpets!

Really nice carpet, almost looks like hearts down her side. I can see why you couldn't pass that up.

I love Olive Pythons, but they're known to be feisty, so watch out. And yes, this certainly counts as a giant python ;)

Very nice, Zig! Definitely a giant.

You'll end up with an SD at some point XD

I have heard olives are suuuuper feisty, sometimes described as 'needlessly agressive', so just be careful. Since it so young and cbb hopefully it will tame down well for you. =)

I am waiting on my 2nd carpet. Gunna be super picky since my space is dwindling lol.

Thanks y'all. I've read and heard they can be a little nippy as hatchlings but most mellow out within a year or so. My impression is they're strongly food driven but still gentle giants that are nice to handle. That's what I'm hoping for at least. :)

@ Mink-That's why I chose to go with the 2016 animal instead of a 2014 that was available. I'd rather deal with a fiesty hatchling than a snappy juvenile/semi adult.

Your saying sorry for getting an olive python :Wow:, are you mad sir. Ziggy I have to admit I'm a tad jealous here mate lol that wee guy of yours is stunning. And you've definitely took a step into the world of giants, I'm not sure how big the males get but I know the females get to a fair old size. I had a picture of one on my old phone eating a wallaby I'll see if I can get it for you and post it here if you want :). And the albino carpet is beautiful looking forward to seeing the pics when they arrive

That olive python is gorgeous zig. How is your second half handling the growing collection?

@ Meso- I rehomed my 2 king snakes so technically the number of snakes hasn't grown. I've just made room for some larger snakes. Trust me I've made that clear with her so there may still be room for one more in a year or so. I'm not going to push it right now :).

Yeah I am working on clearing out some space for my newest acquisition. The hardest thing about this hobby, is knowing what species are the best fit for your interests. I am glad she is on board, does she understand how big it will get?

Mink- It was actually hard for me to rehome the kings because I always promise my critters I'll care for them for life. I know I gave them the best care I could while they were with me but the truth is there's only so much space available. I've come to realize that I prefer keeping medium and larger bodied snakes so I chose to part with the kings and move in another carpet and the olive. The kings went to another great keeper who I know will give them a good life so my conscious is clear :). I'll miss them but don't think they'll miss me :(.
Meso- I told mama bear the truth. He'll probably end up somewhere between 8-12 ft. She didn't give me the business at all. She's come around a lot actually. She doesn't really like snakes but she's happy that I have a hobby that I enjoy so much. The funny thing is my 7 y/o son says, "He's cute, can he be my snake too dad?" So I share the Bredli and the Olive with him :).

Haha that is great, pets can be such a rewarding experience for children. I honestly attribute my life long love of all animals to having pets from pets my entire life.

I saw an advert on Preloved here in the UK and it read something like this..."Burmese python for sale, very tame, loves children, only eats one every 6 weeks........." I think it should have read "ONCE every 6 weeks"

LOL @ Snoop. I was actually looking at pics of your WLP last night and thinking, "I should have gotten one of those." I can't keep em all though. I'm looking forward to the new critter and anxiously waiting for FedEx now. :)

Well FedEx was 10 minutes late but it was worth it. I think I'm going to like this guy. He was really mellow and weighed in at 141g. I think I'll call him Vlad. Big Cheese and Perfect Prey are out of some of the feeder sizes I need so I'll probably have to hit the pet store so I can feed this beast.
