View Full Version : I've succumbed to a real impulse purchase! Very happy with it!

I'm not one for buying on impulse, but this time I was left no choice! Very excited though! It has Not been a good week for me... One of my snakes is not doing well, my computer broke, and my workplace is grim due to 2 unexpected recent deaths.. Anyway long story short, life sucks sometimes. I needed snake food and there were Finally XXL rabbits available so I drove to my favourite store.. Then I fell in love! There in the corner I saw 2 of the most beautiful snakes i had ever seen! Immediatly cheered me up. They weren't cheap, but I know the owner and got a discount. I just could Not leave without them.. I couldn't resist! So I gave them to myself for my upcoming birthday :D Especially hard to resist considering how hard it is to find proper bcc here without them being muddied with Colombian blood at some point. They are wildcaught/farmbred Suriname BCC.. A couple, and both so different from each other I feel like I got the best out of the possible range of diversity! They weren't very aggressive, a little bit nervous and mild nippy but nothing too bad for non captive bred redtails. The female had a tick on her when she came in, the tick came off and the mark isn't very bothersome. But I still hope it clears up with a few sheds, will keep a close eye on her. They're already established eaters so not worried in that aspect. They have no names yet, and had to stay together during the night as I only had 1 usable quarantine tub ready, that will change today though.

The male is creamy white with broad saddles and a cherry red tail, the female is peach pink with sharp thin saddles and a cherry red tail. They were stressed enough so I only took a few quick phone pictures of them late at night (flash washed out a bit) but I'm pretty sure it's not hard to tell why I'm so excited about them! Due to their size I estimate them born in 2015. No computer available so uploading through phone!

Beautiful animals and as Mother Goddess stated, you have to treat yourself every once in a while; you deserve it. It's great to know that these beauties are in such a good home.

Just stunning and I'm insanely jealous. I specifically didn't look at the Guyanan bcc I initial went to see as I knew I wouldn't be able to resist.

I will get one though!

Hey sometimes impulses are the best. XD My husband hates that, but man, that rush on finding something pretty at last second I think is prolly why some folks here have so many snakes, it's just so hard to resist, haha.

Congrats! I love the peachy girl's thin little saddles, and I love both of their cherry tails, those are really bright! I love the markings on this species of boa's heads, they always look like leaves. .)

Thanks both! And it isn't exactly my local store :D I have to drive a bit to get there but it's worth it! Only proper store in the country as far as I know. :) My local store is really bad.

Amazing pickups Tsu! I'm glad your bad week was ended on a positive note. There is something innately satisfying about getting new snakes into your fold. Congrats, they really look special.

Really beautiful pair, the lighter one quite reminds me of my first red tail boa way back in the day. I have to drive 2-3 hours for shows, the local shops are way overpriced on common stock and never have anything particularly interesting in any case. Are you wearing gloves because they're nippy of for the sake of QT?

Thanks Albert! Yes there is something very satisfying about it, it's good and keeps my mind of things. Went from 9 to 11 snakes and in a days time back to 10...This was hopefully the ending of the horrible week.. Guess it won't be as I'm still waiting for the rest of the xenas vet bill.

Thsnk you! Gloves because it made them a lot calmer when picked up, they are a bit wary of hands still. Anything I can do to keep the stress minimal is something I'll do. I have to drive about an hour for my store of choice, there used to be a reptile show here yearly but it vanished. There are yearly shows in other places though the best ones are really far away!

Hopefully the vet is willing to work out a payment plan that is doable for you.

Thanks Albert. The finances aren't the issue, the reminder is the problem.. I already paid most fees, just the euthanasia fee still coming. :(

Still leaving them be as much as possible, they seem pretty relaxed in their quiet homes. They went from a busy store on display to my quiet snake attic and seem to enjoy the peace. They used their hides the first day but are constantly out in the open since then. I'm considering naming them Lucifer & Lillith but I'm not 100% on that yet. Tomorrow will be my first attempt to feed them :D depending on the time of day their colour varies, man did I miss having pure red-tailed boas. ( Also miss my pc, uploading and typing on a mobile device is not my thing) Here are a few snapshots that show some colour variation.

Good news, but not surprising for red tails. :)

Somehow I missed this thread. They're both beautiful boss! I'm sorry you went through such a string of bad situations and for the loss of your snake. It seems it all came full circle in the end with a positive spin. Glad they are doing well and ate for you.

I'm rather fond of Lillith myself. I named our new tiny guy Asmodai, which is another name for Asmodeus and has many other spellings and pronunciations in different languages, and also said to have been Lillith's husband. Another name for Lillith is Zefonith, which is the new girls name coming at the end of the month. Samael is another reported to have been a husband of the Goddess. I guess we have similar taste in names.
