I just caught this scaleless snake in a hard wood forest, it was 90 degrees out at about 1pm on 9/14/2016. I caught it then took pictures and released it. I am in Johnson City TN. I am not going release the exact location. I am really interested to find out what kind of snake this is. Can anyone help?

Dude, I would have kept that thing! I am also in TN and I have never seen a snake like that! Awesome find. =)

It can't be a checkered, it was found in Tennessee.
Definitely a garter of some sort, most likely just a common one with a nice dotted pattern. Thamnophis sirtalis.

Could also be a intergrade from overlapping distribution regions. It is a aberrant pattern to say the least. Did it try to bite or musk you?

Definitely a garter snake, presumably the odd pattern is due to the lack of scales. I would have kept that one, rare mutation and not a good one for survival ion the wild.
