I had read someplace that the irian jaya is a great carpet to go with, but the more I look the more I see Morelia Spilota as the mroe commonly found ones. Are there any pros/cons to the different iterations?

Id like to find something with a "striking" pattern, larger is fine (since, from what I read, carpets max around 10ft and are thin)

My first thought is a jungle IJ, but I am seeing theyre smaller and harder to come by. Id like to be under $300 if possible.

Also, can you recommend a good breeder/vendor?

Most carpets max out around 5-6 ft. If you're looking for a larger specimen I'd go with a Coastal or Bredli. IJs and jungles are a bit smaller but I've still seen some of those that were pretty good size too. Carpets aren't that hard to come by. Nick Mutton at Inland Reptile produces some really nice carpets and has quite a few different types available with some under $300. A few members on this forum produce high quality carpets (MDT and Derek Roddy come to mind). You can also find options on some of the FB Morelia groups, kingsnake.com , and faunaclassifieds.com . I hope you find a carpet that's perfect for you. They are great snakes to keep.

Zig, thanks for the kind words, but I'm not in the same league w Derek. I've got some pretty decent animals, but @default, Derek Roddy, Nick Mutton, Chris Behof, Bill Stegall, Nick Helble, and many, many more will have some amazingly beautiful animals (read: striking pattern).

My heart is with M. s. cheynei. I personally don't think you can beat a nice starkly banded yellow/black snake.
