View Full Version : Boa...wiggling at me

So I was over at a friends place yesterday and was handling some of their snakes. I ended up coming across their Colombian Boa (interesting mutation on it, salmon pink belly all across, gorgeous) and held it for awhile. As my friends have rescued various large snakes, even bred Boas as well, something happened that they said they'd never seen. For some reason this Boa, wrapped around my neck with her head lower than mine, looked up at me and started to wiggle her head at me. It was honestly funny looking at the time, but it got me thinking as to what it meant. My friends said its not IBD, as they've dealt with that before. Anyways about 10 minutes later on she moved her head on top of mine and started doing the same thing again! I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of what this means/could mean.

Thanks!

Also first post woo

I would think it doesn't mean a whole lot. Sorry to burst any bubbles.

Aaron you such a downer. :)

Welcome to the community. I have had similar experiences. I just think the snake likes the height and is checking out things.

I don't know if this is fully the case, but I've seen in some shows when they discuss snakes "triangulating" on their prey. With the position of their eyes, their forward depth perception can't be so good, so they may have to move their head from side to side to get a better idea of how far away you are.

Just an uneducated thought about it :)

I had come to the conclusion she was looking at me, since obviously a face has a lot of depth as opposed to many other things she was looking at (wall, floor, bed) But yeah glad to know, just was wondering if it was anything different lol

I think it was trying to figure out if it could ingest you.

My boa wiggles his head before striking. He's locating his prey. I would be nervous if a boa was doing that to me!

Welcome to the forum.

And lol on all the "sizing you up" comments. They just do funny things sometimes -- there is thought going on in there we will likely never understand.
