Hi everyone!
So after my first post asking for help with choosing a boa, I have received overwhelming replies from both forums I use that I should either get a Dumeril's or a Hog Island. All the care sheets I have been finding seem to be contradictory. I just really need basic information on both of them! If anyone can help by answering the following questions for one or both of the snakes so I can compare them, that would be appreciated!
1. How big do males grow on average?
2. Temperament? Can I trust the snake with my smaller siblings?
3. Enclosure size??
4. Any special lighting requirements?
5. Average prices?
Thanks!

I looked into the hog island boas. If you're wanting something that stays small, be careful where you purchase from. I've seen pics of some snakes sold as hog island boas that ended up getting larger than the owners had expected. The hypothesis floated were that the snakes were either outbred or entirely misrepresented or that selective breeding for the snakes that grow and are able to breed the fastest had resulted in much larger specimens on average than the original stock would have.

Both snakes should have a minimum cage size of 48" long, 30" wide and 16" tall. This will suit them well.

Lights are not needed. However, they do look nice.

A "true" hog island (there is no such island named that by the way) will reach 5-6 feet long. Same goes for the dumerils boa.

Make sure you know your snake before letting other handle it. All my boas are friendly and have been from day one. But just make sure you work with the animal and make sure the person holding them knows how to. Sounds simple but some people do not know about two contact points. No fast movements, not smelling like food etc.

Price, looking at around $200-250 for wither snake.
