What age \ size are Morelia considered to be adult? My oldest carpet is three years old, though she isn't my biggest, and to me she doesn't seem adult.

What age \ size do they start to get the big massive heads I see on older individuals?

When they are ready to breed which would be around 3-4 years on average. My IJ male is about 2.5 years old and his head structure is really starting to thicken.

Thank you. How long \ heavy is your IJ at this age?

I have a female IJ that is roughly around 5 pounds (2268 grams) and probably just over 5 feet in length. She's around 5 years of age. She could weigh more now but that's where she was last time I took weights.

I have a 13 year old male Jungle that's 8 feet and pushing 18lbs.

I have a 14lb Carpet. She's a few years younger than MarvelFreaks. I didn't realize that they could be that heavy haha.

Great looking Carpet Marvel! Reminds me of one of my males. Is he a specific locale that you know of?

Not that i know of. Actually bought him form a pet store that had him labled as a Jungle Carpet female. So up until last year when i learn how to probe i thought he was a female. I was very shocked when the probe went in almost 9 scales on both sides.

Did you have any plans for breeding or were you just curious? Either way it is a beautiful snake!

Nice! Beautiful snake. She reminds me of my Coastal Carmen. She's about 5 and around that size. Haven't taken the time to accurately measure her

Actually had him with my male Diamond x Jungle the year before and nothing happen. So last year i took my Jungle x Jag (male) that had been looked up with my female Coastal on and off for over a month and stuck him in with my Jungle. And nothing happened so just for the hell of it and practice i probe him. Talk about shocked. Sucks to because i thought i had 2.2 but instead i have 3.1. So now i have two males needing girlfriends. My Jag is going to be put with my Coastal again this year.

Izzy is really dark now as she's getting ready to shed! I'm going to visit a friend of mine in the spring that should be having a clutch of Coastals. I love the look and temperament of pure Coastal Carpet Pythons. Your snakes are gorgeous!

I have a 2009 "female" IJ who I'm realizing now is really, really small. I'm not sure if it's because "she" might be a "he" or perhaps she's stunted because she will only eat mice no matter what I try. I'll get a picture soon.

I just picked a JCP who is around 9 y.o. and when i picked her up for the first time i estimated her to be around 20 lbs. I also have a 5 mth old daughter who I know for certain to be 18 lbs. The other nay I put the new jcp back to bed then picked up my daughter and theres at least a 5 lb difference. So when i get her onto a scale ill post her actual weight when I know for sure but shes a beast for sure.

Carpet Pythons (Like every other species) will grow at a rate in which they get food. EI, Eats more, gets larger. Easts less, stays smaller. It's as simple as that.

In the wild, these snakes have a "lean" diet. It's not uncommon to see mature female Jungle Carpets at 3 1/2 - 4 feet. My captive females are barely 4 and are reproducing.
But, I have friends with animals from the same clutch at the same age that are 8 feet. They feed more than I do.

I'm gonna guess it's her diet then. She eats 2-3 Jumbo mice per feeding.

No idea of her weight but here are some pictures. 5 year old "female", 5ft long.

Sorry for the poop cellphone pics. It's been a while since she's been handled and all she wanted to do was GO FAST

My biggest is an 11 year old Diamond girl weighing in at around 3.8KG, she's not a heavy eater. I'll post up my results after I do my weigh-ins on the weekend. My Male Jungle and Bredli Jag are around 2KG and my 3 1/2 yo IJ is a bit over 2KG and still growing.

You should really specify WHICH Morelia... M. boeleni (Boelen's pythons) can hit 14 ft. (Source: Caring For The Boelen’s Python (http://www.reptilesmagazine.com/Snake-Care/Boelens-Python-Care/) )

M. Kinghorni (Ameythistine (Scrub) Python) 18ft+ (rumored to 20)

Some of the smaller carpets 5-6ft.

Tl;dr: The morelia complex is huge and sizes vary greatly.

It should also be said that "Wild" average size and "captive" average size vary greatly.

Well hopefully mine have some growth spurts. They are definitely behind all of y'alls. But I feed less often, so that is probably the reason. I feed on a 10-14 day schedule.

2011 M 75% Bredli- 2311g
2013 F Bredli - 658g
2012 M IJ- 1285g
2011 F IJ- 2422g
2009 M Jungle- 2211g
2012 F 75% Jungle- 1565g
2010 M Diamond- 1876g
2003 F Diamond- 3843g
2010 M Darwin- 1600g
2013 F 75% Darwin- 309g
2013 F Darwin/IJ- 277g
2013 F Darwin/IJ- 276g

2013 GTP- 360g
2013 M Woma- 630
2012 F Woma- 1713

You can notice the difference in grown rates between the 2010 Darwin and the similar age Carpets; He was raised with light feeding.
Also the 2013 Bredli is much larger than the other 2013's They were also raised on light feeding at the breeders.
The rest were fed moderately; at around 2KG I cut back the males food to around every 21 days. At 1KG I switch females to every 2 out of every 3 weekends and males to 1 out of every 2.

I can e-mail a detailed feeding/growth tracker to anyone interested (PM me).

i consider all my Carpets adults at 4 to 5 years of age, with the exception of my pure Diamond Pythons

Diamond are adults at 5 to 6 years of age

re sexual maturity
males at 18 months in some cases

females 4 years and above

personally i would not breed a Female Carpet until 4 years onwards

males i'll try from 18 month onwards

cheers shaun
