View Full Version : Opinions on what this is?
I posted pictures of this snake back in March, well he/she has shed a couple times since then, and gotten quite a bit bigger, so I thought I would post some new pictures and see if there are any new opinions.

This is a 2013 unknown carpet, bought as a jungle. When purchased it looked ALOT like an Irian Jaya cross, now it doesn't. Well, to me it doesn't.
He/she shed last week. Yes it just ate, it was out due to a cage cleaning and I decided to snap a few pics cause it looked pretty.

As you've likely heard many times, can't know without lineage.
However with that being said, that is most certainly not a pure jungle. The head pattern gives it away. I would say it "looks" to be a cross with either darwin, coastal, or IJ, or maybe a mix of all of those. Darwins and southern coastals have that faded head pattern.

In the end, even though we don't know exactly what it is, that is one cool looking carpet python.
Good point about the head pattern. It's hard to tell with . Good looking snake though.

it;s all just guessing mate.....
i would say a diamond jungle or a diamond jungle jag sibling
we will never know without lineage information from the person who produced it
its a good looking carpet

I feel very strongly that there is darwin or coastal in it, given it's head pattern.

Apart from a beautiful carpet (I'm guessing here) I would say Diamond Jungle cross.

I agree- I definitely see reason to believe there is diamond blood in him, but I really feel we can rule out jungle blood based on the head pattern. (Or at least dominant jungle blood).

Coastal and diamond blood being a part; jungle diamond x coastal would be my best guess, but I wouldn't go around saying that's what it is.
This just shows mikoh's point without info on the lineage it's all just guessing.
I have no guesses... I just wanted to say how lovely that snake is!
Thanks for the comments everyone. I do know that there is no way I will get a definitive answer, but I do like to hear the opinions. Regarding the thought that there may be Darwin and or Coastal, it is very possible that he could be an Albino jag clutch sibling.
Henry Piorun is local to me, and he breeds albino jags.

There are a few normal het 66% albino carpets on his site that have a very similar faded head pattern. See the link above, it will take you to the page with the hets. So it is possible that he came from Henry.
Or he could just be a jag sibling, and the reduced head pattern is just coming from coastal influence. Though my pure coastal has a well defined head pattern. It's a mystery! I am very happy to have him, he is a lovely snake and I am enjoying seeing him grow up. (or her).

I'd say its some type of diamond cross. Either diamond coastal or diamond jungle or both. Nice carpet though, looks like its going to color up real nice.

I would have to say I see no diamond influence in that one. Most likely a jungle cross with some darwin/IJ/Coastal influence.

I agree, I don't see it either...nor do I see jungle influence. What I do see is Darwin....which means this animal would be a albino line Darwin...crossed with something.....most likely a coastal.
If you're close to Henry, my bet is on that.

Thanks Derek, I agree, the albino siblings look so similar that I think my bet is on that as well.

it looks like it has some jungle in it due to the bright yellows, and some coastal too because of the pattern

As stated above, it's hard to say for sure without seeing/knowing the parentage. However, the pictures put up by the OP look almost identical to our Darwin het.

You can get those without jungle. Lots of Darwins /coastals/ and diamonds are very bright.

I would love to see a picture of yours!
