Well, I have a corn snake now. As many of you know I wound up with a yellow rat snake that I was totally unhappy with. Nobody here wanted to work with her. My daughter suggested getting rid of her and getting another corn snake. I told her it was up to her, so she contacted the breeder that she got her 2013 corn from earlier this year, and they wanted her, and offered her a "mystery" snake. They had a corn snake that they got at a show.
No one knows how old it is, or where it came from, just that its a male "normal".
I didn't really want a normal corn, but I figured at least the kids could enjoy another one (they each have a 2013). Better than having the yellow that nobody would go near. So I told her to make the deal. Better than nothing, right?
Then they show me this picture

hmmmm, now I'm starting to feel a bit differently about this whole deal.
I go over there to make the trade, and I'm met by this

I instantly fell in love. We were talking with the people for at least 45 minutes and I was holding the snake the whole time. He's very alert and curious, just a little bit head shy, but tolerated handling extremely well.
He's home now, we named him Higgins after David Spade's character on Grownups "just say corn. Maize is corn everybody" Like I said, I have no idea how old he is, or where he came from. I am curious to see what he turns out like. I really love the way he looks now and I hope he's old enough to have most of his adult coloring. I really hope he doesn't change much. He's currently 123 grams and is settling in to his new home.
I snapped a few pics while transferring him from the box to his enclosure.

Very nice corn! At 123 grams, he will probably develop at least some more orange in the ground color but likely won't change a great deal.

I wish so badly I could have taken a picture but I didn't have a camera handy. I know a lot of people think you need to give a snake a week or so before trying to feed it. Let it settle in, etc etc. Well, as well as this snake tolerates being handled, and since he's been out cruising around acting hungry, and today was feeding day. I fed him.
What I do with my snakes is get them out of the enclosure, have someone else put their food in there, then put them back in.
Higgins spotted the food, and started eating it before I could even let go of him. That's three snakes I have that will do that. Chinga did it tonight too. George does it quite often.

Nice corn! People always underestimate the normals in my opinion. Everyone is just stuck on all the morphs and they forget about how beautiful the natural coloring actually is.

1st of the month weigh in.
I must have mis-measured last time, if I did it right, it means that he lost a gram since last weigh in

thanks guys, I love how great he is looking.
I was thinking about a fecal issue as well. I'm not worried about him losing a gram. It's just weird at his age that he didn't increase. Like I said, I must have misread the scale the first time I weighed him.
Either way, he's healthy looking and strong, so I'm happy :]
