So, tomorrow is feeding day and it will be the first feeding with the Jungle Carpet and he has 2 large rats coming to him. My question to you with more experience is, what other prey items do you use? I have read accounts of rabbits and smaller chickens. Is there anything else you guys could recommend?

A rat is a nutritionally complete meal for a snake. No real need to mix it unless it is just for fun. Some people also feed the quail. My big female gets the odd 2.5-3lb bunny.

The guy that I buy rats from is moving away, so I am working on trying to find a new supplier, but in the mean time I see chicks and rabbits going on craigslist pretty cheaply, so that was my question. Are the chicks and rabbits nutritionally good for a carpet?

Yes they are. Rabbit is very high in protein and low in fat. Chicks make for messy poop.

I dont know if this sounds odd, but there was once when my rat/mice supplier ran out of food. I went down to a pet shop and got some small hamsters to feed my GTP and ball python. Hamsters are more fatty than the usual feed, not sure how it would turn out in the long run tho. Perhaps an overweight snake?
