I recently adopted a male dum. He is only about 4.5 feet right now and seems very inquisitive. I am very happy with my purchase although I have a question.

I have a female that is a full grown adult and the difference between their faces makes me feel as though something isn't right. The new male looks almost like his eyes are sucked into his face almost like his cheeks are swollen. When I first got him he drank from his bowl for literally 2 hours. I then soaked him thinking it was dehydration. Next I did some research and found out that these might be symptoms of mouth rot. I held him down and pried his mouth open with a pencil to inspect it for anything abnormal and found nothing, no swollen tissue, or black growth. The only thing I could find is when I was opening his mouth it was almost like his teeth were stuck to his bottom gum.

Anyone have any ideas? He ate yesterday with no problem and I have since installed a fogger with a hydrostat to ensure his humidity is correct. Thanks.

Pics would help a lot in this case.

Thank you for the pict. However, with the mist and dim lighting it's hard to tell what might be the problem. Could you remove him from his enclosure and place him under stronger light for another pict, please? That would really help us to help you.

Yes but I must wait for him to calm down. He is really pissed off at the moment. launching out as soon as his cage opens. I am going to try tomorrow as he just ate. Thank you so much guys.

Understood, and best to give him some time to digest anyway.

Sorry everyone. Yesterday my Grandma passed away so obviously I wasn't exactly in the mood for pics but I woke up today to take a few and the swelling is completely gone and his eyes look normal again. He has been soaking in his water dish so I am going to chalk it up to dehydration. Thanks everyone for the replies.
