Hey guys I'm a long time reader on here and wanted to say thanks for the great info and community!
I've always wanted a Boa, they have always been the perfect snake in my eyes. Yesterday I finally got one, she was shipped from Florida overnight and dispite the extremely cold Chicago weather she arrived just fine and was the sweetest thing right out of the bag! She made my heart melt and is settling in here new temporary enclosure until I build a better more permanent home this weekend.
She made my heart melt instantly and is sooo soft! I love her, no name quite yet though.
The breeder said they were on rat pups and that's what I've got in the freezer that my corn snake is currently eating, let me know what you guys think or if I should offer a smaller first meal to be sure she is comfortable and gets one down ok when that time comes. Thanks guys!
Pics in next post.

That's cool totally understandable. I'm a forum guru for the car stuff as my name implies but so far in the snake world I've been sitting back and soaking in all the knowledge I can.....sort of like an ambush predator lol

Thanks everyone I appreciated the compliments on her.
What drew me to the boa's is their head shape, I love the look, so refined and chiseled looking, very muscular. It's been a number of years since I've held any other snake except my corn snake and I couldn't believe how soft she felt (the boa).
I have watched a lot of videos of them online and the seem to just have an overall great demeanor, very inquisitive.
Oh and can't forget their little Frenchmen mustache and goatee it's so adorable as well.
I'm sure I could go on and on why they are my favorite and I've only had her a few days.
If anyone else wants to add what they love most about boas feel free at add in to the list I'd also love to hear what your favorite features are.

I enjoy their large size and girth, but not overwhelming like the giants.
I also like their generally laid back demeanor and the fact that they are a good snake to "chill" with when watching tv for example. I also like their eyes and head.

Exactly. They're big snakes, but not BIG snakes. It won't be a challenge to feed or house it when it's full grown. I love the really big snakes like retics, burms, and anacondas, but I have limited room in the house and I don't know where I'd get big enough food for a snake like that.
I've been looking at a Dumeril's since I was a teenager, and have always love the pattern, disposition, and size.
I agree, Dum's feel so soft! My friend had one and she was the softest snake ever! Gorgeous boa you have. :)

Sweet looking Dumeril.
I have always really dug their pattern. Almost looks like they were spray painted in multiple layers using stencils! So cool!

Yeah I'm from the far nw suburbs of Chicago so not quite in the city (about 45 minutes away), I think I'm closer to the WI/IL boarder than the city really.
Do you ever go to the Scott Smith All Animal Expo at Dupage County fairgrounds? I go there with the family to check stuff out and pick up feeders every couple months when I run out of snake food. Always a good time.

I appreciate all the compliments guys.
I wanted to share a few more pics now that she is getting settled in.
She ate 1 time for me so far and was a very hungry girl and snapped it right up, even threw out a blind strike just grabbing air before the rat pup was anywhere near her lol.
Since she has entered shed the day of feeding this past week, she was in blue, but I tried feeding anyways and she sniffed it out but didn't want it so now I'm waiting for her to finally shed which should be any day now and I will offer again as soon as that happens. I gave her a soak bath this morning to help her along and I have plenty of humidity in her new enclosure from the cypress mulch I put in there.
Here are some pics of her and her new enclosure I built last weekend and transferred her over into this week.
The lighting is led so it doesn't produce any heat, I still want to get a led black light in there to switch on for night viewing. Heating is achieved by a reptile basics 120watt radiant heat panel overhead and controlled by a thermostat that is bolted on the side out of view in these pictures. It stretches 1/2 way across the enclosure on the left half and over the warm hide.
Hot side is on the left in the pictures and cold side on the right.
So far out in the "sun" I have the thermostat probe and have it set at 86 degrees probe is at ground level.
Under the large mossy oak hide I get about 80-81 degrees and the cold side is at 74-75 degrees.
Hope this all sounds well for a dumeril's, please let me know if I should make any adjustments. I do have a spare heat pad I thought about putting under the hot hide all the way to the left on a separate thermostat but not too sure if its really needed or not. Any ideas or thoughts are much appreciated.
Thanks guys!
Really nice enclosure, and very pretty little snake! This species is really catching my eye!
