Okay... So my female Dumeril's' is pregnant... The guy I got her from said he put her with males on several occasions. And my aunt (a vet) said she's positive that she's prego... So... What's next? Since they're love bearers, no incubation, etc, obviously! But will she show any signs that she's about to give birth before hand? Once the babies are born, I was instructed to wait two minutes for the babies to emerge from their sacks, if they don't emerge after two minutes, help them out of their sacks, by gently kind of getting into it with my fingers until I can touch them and gently pull them out. Then wash them in water and soap, and then separate them from Mommy... Any other advice? I know that I may need to assist feed them and I'm prepared for that.. Anything else I need to know?

Don't know much about dumeril's breeding and birthing but I'll just say not to worry about assist feeding; It's very easy. I'd be more worried about how many babies they lay and how you'll house them all before sending them off to their new homes.

How big are their clutches? I just ordered ten more thermostats, and an AP rack.

You might not need 10 t-stats. I just did a quick google search and most articles seem to be saying that dumerils lay anywhere around 4-12 babies.
edit: Just read another article that says 7-20. Either way I guess they aren't overwhelming numbers.
Congrats on your first clutch! lol

Gosh... So freaking nervous and excited! At least Boas are live bearing... I wouldn't have been prepared to incubate eggs... Can't wait to get some lil babies :)

Totally going to be annoying... Since Boas are live bearers she won't be laying Any babies ;)

Baby snakes are the best. They don't stay small forever. If I had the space I'd keep a few babies and raise them.

Wow I'm amazed and slightly jealous. ;) I've tried breeding my Dums twice, to no avail. Find out when these locks took place. Dum gestations are quite long. Depending on whom you talk to, it can be 6-9 months so you do have time. Also about the litter size, the second set of numbers sounds more accurate to me based on what I have read.
How big is that rack you ordered? You may need it to house your babies. The fact that you ordered these thermostats and the rack comes just in time. The babies can go in the rack, and you will have enough thermostats with a few extras for all your snakes.
Another thing to remember, Dums are slow growers. While the babies may start out 18"-24", they will take a long time to grow, so in your case, that is also a good thing.
Congratulations!

This is funny.... I literally came back to this thread to say "I hope to hear from ExWizard here" lol.. I mean.. You are the lord of the Dum's, right?? I got the Animal Plastics 1753(5)
Animal Plastics (http://www.apcages.com)
The rack was purchased for the babies! :) I bought it tonight. I asked about when he tried to breed her... He said he was putting her with males every other week but he didn't specify when he started, so... Maybe tomorrow, maybe Christmas time, maybe spring?? Lol. Hopefully I get a lot of live healthy babies! I am very worried about getting all stillborns and/or slugs :/ I am confident that I'll get some live healthy babies but it still worries me. Also, I'm worried about her being hurt while giving birth.. Hearing about peoples females pass while giving birth kills me to imagine it happening with her. Really does... Lot of things worrying me but I'm very excited :) So is it okay to house 2-3 babies per tub if I get too many babies to house? Only temporarily until I figure something else out? I have sooooo many more questions for everyone! I guess it would be a lot easier if more people bred Dumeril's
One more thing: I may pick the lightest/prettiest 1.1 of the babies and breed them! Duma is pretty dark so I doubt to see any super light babies but still.. It'll depend on if I really lime the two I pick, and how sales are for Duma's clutch.

I would not house any snakes together. If you're concerned about having too many babies, up your rack size.

Wew... $200 more ($400 total) for the rack that hold 10/20 tubs... Thank goodness I have a nice fat check this month o.o just purchased it :)

Go with the 6 high. That will fit up to 12 babies

Will a 5qt be big enough for a 18"-24" baby?

I wouldn't go that small with them. In fact, 15qt tubs are the right size for baby Dums. Go with the 6 shelf. This way, you can fit up to 12 babies comfortably.

For sure! Definitely want these babies to be as comfortable as possible they'll be more likely to eat without issues and so they're overall happier :)
I can guarantee that it's going to take forever to sell these babies... They aren't just going to anyone with cash (happens way too much in the reptile pet trade, SMH)

Wish I had the space for one. I'd definitely like to add one to my collection.

Wish I had the budget for one. Without my rats breeding, I couldn't afford to feed another large snake even though I already have the space and cage for one. haha Congrats, and I hope everything goes well and she has many healthy babies. Post pics when everything gets going. :)

Is that so?? :p who knows? If I get healthy babies, I'll surely send you one once they're eating and have shed :D As long as you have everything ready first :)

I can't wait to be able to do some small breeding projects.. But I just moved back home after graduating college and I don't think my mother would be too excited about the idea LOL
Although I would definitely be interested in taking one of your new additions off your hands when they are available ;)

So her previous owner texted me today. He said she should give birth in six months max :)
So for anyone who truly wants one, do your research and have your setup completely ready before they've had five consistent meals and at least one good shed. And he prepared for me to quiz you on Dumeril's husbandry :p
