I don't know if this is old news but Brian at BHB just produced some scaleless balls!

It is old news. I believe that this isn't the first of its kind the other did not live long

Disgusting.

Just because something can be done, doesn't mean it should be done. What's next? Breeding snakes to have no eyes?

Do scaleless snakes require more humidity? I'd imagine that they dehydrate pretty quick due to their skin being exposed.

The only genetic eye defect I've heard of in boas was bulging in the beginnings of captive breeding of the Sharp Albinos.

I'll have to look into this Kahl thing.

Actually Kahl albinos are very well known for a bulging eye that shrivels and becomes useless. Usually the right one too.

ive seen the same clips over and over again of the scaleless ball (he actually got 2 in this clutch) as he just cut the egg; what i really want to see is proof that it lived to even get out of the egg. Im holding back judgement until i see a live baby snake.

I hope if anything does happen to it BHB can get a really in depth necropsy/genetics report to see if there is a congenital something or other that caused the last one to die.

From what I read, the first one didn't have heat pits or whatever they're called. I think this is going to be bad for buisness if it doesn't survive. If I were Brian, I would of waited to see if it was a healthy scaleless and then show it off. If it dies, the backlash will come like it already has but 10x worse.

The derma ball did not have heat pits, however it was feeding fine as far as I know. They don't NEED heat pits to find prey items...

HERE is a question for anyone who has kept, interacted with any scaleless snakes:

Typical snakes have a scale covering the eye, the spectacle/eyecap. A scaleless snake would not have this, correct? So how do they protect their eye? Anyone have any thoughts? BHB just posted a 'teaser' photo of their new snake's eye, so it got me to thinking.

Actually, they still have their eye caps. And they also have ventral scales, otherwise they wouldn't be able to move. I have an extra humid-hide in with my scaleless Texas rat to aid in shedding (because they do still have a full shed).

Call me what you will for owning one, hate on me if you must, but she is a cool little bugger, and I could give two flying rat's keisters about what you think of me and my animals.

i have no issue with scaleless snakes. I think its very cool how far we've come in terms of exploring the potentials of snake genetics, and i do think humans can learn quite a bit from this mutation about mammalian skin development and dermal diseases. Ive read and learned since i posted the question regarding the eyecaps, i know they still have them. My question was more directed towards the scaleless BP, which to my knowledge we dont know if it has ventral scales yet.

My question wasnt meant to offend anyone, what i do take issue with is you immediately bristling and assuming everyone is out to get you for owning a scaleless rat snake. I saw (and commented on) the pictures you posted of her, and i think she is very cute and will turn into a beautiful adult.

The latter part of my post wasn't in regards to what you said, but what has been said by MANY other members in regards to scaleless snakes of any species. I do apologize to you, and I should have made that clearer.
