Been looking to lern more about the uk reptile laws and couldent find eny thing that was ov eny use to be honest. The one thing I did find tho was that the eu was considering making it illegal to keep eny reptile that could be harmfule to native species it even included the king snake. So in truth I dont see much ov a future for the boas and pithons. Just thinking what your thaughts on this was. King snakes a bit harsh I think ????

Boas and Pythons could not survive anywhere in the EU out in the wild, even southern Europe's winter would be too cold, King snakes and other colubrids could theoretically survive down south in some places
I've not read anything about these proposed laws, got any links? I know that there are some issues with Monitors being released around some areas of Spain, but none are known to have survived the winter
Some european snake species are endangered, I think if any snake would be banned, it would be King Snakes, that prey on other snakes

Hi yes that makes sense I guess with kings eating other snakes. As for a link no sorry I just went on google and typed in uk exotic reptile laws and came acros this it is ment to be coming within the next year. It also said that even reptile keepers that only have one could be at risk ov having to put what ever reptile they keep to sleep if it fell in to what they say is a danger to native wildlife or to the public. I knew that boas and pithons would not survive out side. Just in a panik really as to how far they will take this if it gets to be a law. Do u have eny restrictions as to what u can keep?

I contacted my MP and MEP about this a whole back, it will never restrict reptile keepers generally. I cant remember exactly what was said but i know it settled any concerns i had at the time.

Thanks rob thats a load off my mind then I was just in a panick cos if the boas and pithons ever got banned then it would be impossible to get vet care if it was ever needed. Probably would have made a lot of people keep them ilegaly eny way and cause more animal cruelty as no one could pop doun to the vets if theyr snakes got sick. Thanks again... Steve

Snakeman, I would call anyway. Part of the challenge the reptile industry faces is that the public (and politicians) do not realize how many of us actually keep and like these animals. You do not have to offer specific details on your situation, but the more often those in authority hear from our side, the better.

Yes that is tru it cerainly would do no harm to find out for my self .and I hear you with they dont know how meny people have reptiles and how strong the hobby is. hear is to meny meny more years of keeping snakes with out stupid laws about snakes that could never servive in the wild eny way. I get that hot reps should be licenced but not banned just for the fact that not every one should have one. One stupid feeding error is all it takes and common sence is that if a person had a snake for 6 months shouldent even consider them. I really need to look deeper in to the animal laws of the uk. They banned pit bulls what could be next
