So, after a few years of wanting a Western Hognose I had the perfect opportunity to get one! She's a little one from this year :)
She will be coming from Ottawa near the end of September and I seriously can't wait :D

Here are some teaser photos from the breeder:

Alright, the day finally arrived! She is now here! :D

She is so tiny, only 12 grams. She was very calm and curious when we picked her up. I'm curious to find out what she's like once she has settled in to her new home.

Didn't manage to get many pics of her before putting her away but here are a couple pics!

I will update with more pics in a week or so once she has settled in and has been fed :)

Anyways here is a little update on the little Hoggie! Still haven't thought of a name yet but so far she has eaten no problem and shed. I looked in her cage today and the shed was perfect. So happy! :bouncy:

Thanks Kera! :D Trust me, they are so worth it! Totally different from any other snake I've held or owned. Such cool personalities, and plus who can resist a sweet face like that?! :)

She is adorable! Hoggies really are some of the neatest snakes out there!
I keep telling myself no more Westerns but might just have to add one or two more ...

You're welcome!! And she's so gorgeous, by the way. :) I was second guessing it, thinking about a black and whit aberrant Cali king, since they're beautiful and a bit cheaper but I saw your pictures and decided otherwise. ;)

Thanks! She's very different from my balls (teehee) in general movement and temperament. Such cutie pies, love it when they hiss and strike, so cool! I find her feeding response is something to get sued to as she doesn't constrict either.

You can never have too many of them, I already want to get a male! Just need the extra room.....

Understandable. ;) she doesn't have problems eating mice or anything?? I've heard they can be a bit hard to get onto rodents rather than frogs and such but they're easier than Easterns.

Awe thanks :) She does a great job being cute all the time. I've seen the Cali Kings and they are gorgeous as well! I just find the Hognoses to be unique. Not as common and they look like a pug in the snake realm :P Yay! You should definitely get one!

So far she is doing really well with feeding. Since she is so small she's on pinky mice every 4-5 days. She seems to like them really warm (I feed f/t) and left in front of her, not jiggled in front of her like the BPs so it has taken some getting used to for me. And no constriction! She will hiss at it and bump it with her nose a few times before swallowing it down.

I've heard of that as well, but I got her from a breeder that got her feeding steadily on f/t mice so it was easy for me. I consider myself lucky since I know taking the time to brain, scent and go over other options can be stressful and a little less desirable but as long as you get one from a good breeder their should be no problems :)

Yeah, that's actually why I hesitate to get another, if I got a female I'd be very tempted to breed them but I just don't think I have what it takes to deal with the possible feeding issues with babies. I have an Internet friend that breeds them and he says that every year, out of his several clutches, he always has one or two that just will not switch to mice.

But yes, once they are eating mice consistently for the breeder, you should have no problems with one.

I'm not really planning to breed because of that exact reason. However I did get a female just in case as I know once you decide you want to breed it can be quite the waiting game, especially if you started out with a male. Hognoses are difficult to get in BC as there are no breeders, they are all east so it could be a potential upside. But it won't be for quite awhile anyways. They make sweet pets anyways so I'm not too concerned :)

Thanks everyone!

Me too, I've only had her since the end of September. I can't wait until next year once she grows and gets a bit bigger, she's so tiny I'm afraid that I'll lose her :p

Gave her another pinky yesterday, she didn't show much interest while it was on the tongs but I left it there and left her alone. 10 minutes later I checked on her again and she gobbled it up!

Also gave her a small bath in the sink, she's a good swimmer too. Thought I'd give her a chance to get her body moving since they have such high metabolisms. How often do you feed yours Teal?
