I just have a question,
right now my brb is taking hopper mice every
7 days with no problem, sometimes
I see on here like example: "oh my snake took two fuzzys down" .
here's the question how exactly do you when theyre still hungry?
do I just stick another one In there & see if he takes it ..
just thought id ask since I see it a lot,
not just in this forum but in others

If the snake needs two prey items of the same size, it's time to move up a prey item size.

Then general rule is that she can take 1 1/2 size her width
BRBs are great and are surprising what they can pound back

Actually a boide can handle a meal 3 or more times the girth of it, even a brazilian rainbow.

Yeah I've feed em a large mouse before & i
Honestly didn't think it would be able to take em down
& it gobbled it right up, it actually got a bit bigger because of
That mouse.
But I learned something new thanks guys :)
While I agree with what Amadeus is saying I would add that just because a BRB can handle something 3 times its girth doesn’t me that you should be feeding such large pray items. Remember that in nature these animals have adapted to take extremely large pray items because there is no guarantee that they will be feeding again next week. In captivity with regular feeding schedules BRBs don’t need such large pray items. I feed all of my BRBs once a week as babies and juveniles. My grown adults get feed every 10 days. I feed them a rat that is 1 to 1.25 times the snake’s girth. I have found that this keeps my BRBs happy, health and growing at a normal rate. I highly discourage power feeding BRBs.

I agree with RBD on prey size. I am more conservative with adult feeding though, and only feed once every three weeks -- a schedule the animals do fine on.
One other note: just because a rainbow will *accept* two prey items in a row does not mean it *needs* bigger meals. It means the snake is taking advantage of an opportunity not knowing when the next meal is coming...exactly as designed to do. "Need" has nothing to do with it.
Go with the girth rule of 1-1.25X and weekly until the animals reaches a year old, then reassess.
Good luck!

I was just asking a question, I didn't say
I was doing that .. I just see that alot on here, that
Ppl feed them back to back & I'm just like whoa :o that's alot
But I was just asking to know more knowledge.
But for they're girth? I have an idea of what it is but I don't want to sound
Stupid?

I know you were not doing that...but many people other than the OP read these boards, and some might get the wrong idea since someone else floated the idea. So the correction was more for other readers than for you. :-)
Girth = thickness of the snake...how wide around it is.
