Idk if theres already one of these threads (sorry Wayne lol) but I borrowed my moms digital camera which is OK and took some pics of the female today for a few minutes while I put in a different 'tighter' hide and some fake leaves lol

This is not that clear but you can see their iridescence

And this one for a different size reference. The step is 7.5 - 8 inches in height.

Wow man they look pretty cool. I know nothing at all about pygmy pythons. As korbin would say "google is my friend" ... i'll get on that.

Smaller cousins to stimsons and childrens, smallest python in the world, easy to keep and 24 inch adult length. In a nutshell lol

The new ball/corn, No way they are stunning I want 1 now smy if your snakes have babies I want one.

With no available morphs and feeding issues for hatchlings due to size, I dont think they will reach corn/ball status. You got it boss

They are all cbb. Its a size issue along with wild lizard diet. I think rat pinks are too big for my adults, they eat 5-10 gram mice fuzzies fully grown. So you can imaglne what a hatchling the size of a half dollar would need.

Thanks Am

There are **** ton of tiny little marsupials in Australia and babies would be an alright size I think.

Even small geckos are too big. Probably the hatchlings of smaller gecko/skink species.

They are miniature carbon copies of their larger cousins. Same proportions and everything, only difference is slightly more forward oriented eyes and a slightly different head shape. The skin is VERY smooth as well and they are similar in behavior to carpet pythons with regards to handling.

according to the website below, new born mice dont pose a huge problem for pygmies...

It depends on the size of the pinky imo. But from whats readily available, I highly doubt it. How much do newborn pinkies typically weigh?

3-5 grams I think.

pinkies can be less than half a gram, fuzzies are usually 3+, over here at least; probably depends on the species of mouse, there are some very small mouse species

My adult male took a 5 gram fuzzy a few days back, I HIGHLY doubt a hatchling could take something 3-5 grams...could be wrong but I just don't see it. My adults heads are 1 cm wide by 2 or 3 long... We are talking about snakes with adult sizes half or less than half of a cornsnake to give you an idea.

If this is the case, than yes they probably can take them. I haven't seen cbb hatchlings from this species so I can't speak from experience. I do know they lay relatively large eggs in comparison to the size of the adults, but its still small..

And I can't find a single picture of a hatchling perth online

More pictures, the first batch was all female, these are all the male. Sorry bout so many pics but I won't have my moms camera long haha He is the more docile of the two, if thats even possible.

Thanks Marvel! The eyes are very cool. Anyways, after doing a bit more research and talking to a few people I know breeding these, I decided that I would house them together and not brumate them as its not really needed. They locked up only a few hours after putting them in the same tub.

Wow, horny little buggers lol. That is awesome smy. Are they in their "typical" breeding season?

smy_749
07-05-13, 09:28 PM
No, breeding is typically in winter months. In Australia that would be about right now, but something like our december I believe. However from what I understand, the Antaresia complex doesnt need to be put into brumation although it may help initiate breeding. Same deal with housing seperately, they arent cannablisitc and found close in proximity in the wild, so year round cohabbing is a possibility.

Interesting. I have talked to a few extremely experienced carpet python guys on here that believe in co-habbing breeding pairs as well.

Yeah they do....

Close proximity in the wild yes... cases of eating each other in captivity while co-habitating... yes

Red , have you had a chance to look at the new complete childrens python book?
Does it have a fair amount of info on perths?

Anyways, some updates.....tomorrow is the second feeding, female is showing some swelling and hanging out in the humid hide a bit more, hard to feel for any anything on a snake that small...going by site for now. Idk how far along she is since I was told they had locked up before I purchased aswell. No pics because I'm lazy. Maybe some feeding ones tomorrow.

I'll be busy this month, Ill update again if she lays.

No not yet... funds are low so not a priority at the moment so rush on getting the book.

Plus I'm trying to convince Peter Birch to send me a signed copy lol

Don't know if it has a section on pygmys?

In case anyone is wondering what a bite from an adult perth looks like. I got nailed today (more like pricked lol). She went into bite mode so I backed off and she calmed down, went to grab her from the tail end and she lunged all the way back and nailed me haha

Some updated pics, haven't posted any lately.

Female is the chunky one closer to the camera. Sorry bout the blurry pics, took them out for a bit to hang out and they don't really stop moving. Only the female does when shes thinking about biting me.

what about baby mourning geckos? If you get 5-6 adult females (~2-3 inches) they should start laying soon, then you could have a whole colony of parthenogenic baby pgymy python feeders! they can live off of repashy/supplemented with fruitflys so are very easy to take care of. The babies I had could easily curl up on my thumbnail (size reference)

Thought about it, just never did more research. Theres only two of em and Idk if it worth it since they dont cost much to feed anyways really
