Re: Hello! Dumeril's fan here

Popeye and Arwen both are on X Large rats. They both weigh 14 lbs. Black Betty is on XXX Large rats but she's exceptionally large at 24 lbs., so yeah when they get big enough, they can go on Jumbos.

Re: Hello! Dumeril's fan here

I usually bump them back to every other week once they start eating Mediums. Until then I feed them weekly.

Re: Hello! Dumeril's fan here

This is by far the best thing about Dums. I got my start in the hobby with Dums and they remain the cornerstone to my collection, including my signature snake, Black Betty.

Remember, they are slow...

Re: Handling a jungle carpet python?

I don't have a Jungle but I do have a pair of Irian Jayas and both of them love being out. In fact, not only them, but most of my snakes love being out. At least they seem to do everything they can...

Re: Handling snakes..?

I don't remember. Did I ever post about what happened with him during his feeding session almost 2 weeks ago? It was a sight to behold!

Re: Positives and negatives of using basement.

I don't see any negatives in keeping your snakes in a dry, climate controlled basement. I also can relate to having all my snakes in room as I have currently 36 in my room, which is also in the...

Re: Handling snakes..?

I just wish I had gotten him as a baby. This way I could've tamed him like I did my Macklot's.

Re: Thinking of getting a Corn...

Very true. There are nothing but advantages to having a Corn. I have 8 of them, 4 of which I produced, myself last year. Thay are certainly a lot of fun, no matter what morph you get.

Re: Eco earth or Kritter's Crumble?

I also use Eco Earth for my Brazilians. It holds the humidity much better than the newspaper they were on. I find that having them each in their own CB70 tub with very large water bowls placed...

In answer to your question, I use full sheets of newspaper.

I'm also glad to see she's coming out and exploring. It means she's getting more comfortable with her new environment.

I can...

Re: what do you use?

I can't use bleach at all since I have eczema and I am sensitive to the irritating effects of bleach. I used to use rubbing alcohol but I like the F10 much better. It does not leave a residue at all.

Re: what do you use?

I also replace all the newspaper but before I lay the fresh newspaper out, or in the big snakes' case, puppy pads, I spray and wipe their enclosures with F10-SC The stuff works great and there's no...

Re: feeding question.

I'm glad you brought that up. My adult Corns are also fed weekly and will continue to be fed weekly the rest of their lives. For them, prey size does not matter since they never will take anything...

Re: feeding question.

I go by the size of the prey item with adjustments according to the species, Most species I have get bumped back to every other week when their prey size reaches Medium. With my Carpets, this happens...

Re: Handling snakes..?

Well, Pindari is still pretty young. At 2 years old, he's about 8' long and on Large rats weekly, but his 'tude is about 3X his size.

The "heat seeking missile with teeth" description is...

I too am sorry for your loss. I can understand how you feel, having gone through that before. I also understand how snakes soothe stressed nerves just by handling them. That's why I always look...

I handle mine every chance I get but with my long hours at work, it's really hard to get to everybody except on Cleaning Day. Then everyone gets handled. Well, everyone gets handled except for...

Re: Does feeding when young effect maximum size?

This is interesting to consider. Medusa obviously did not get fed enough the first year of her life before I brought her home. At 11 months old, this Burm was 36" long. Now at 2 years and 4 months...

Re: Why Do You Have Snakes In Your Life?

When my son was a kid, I bought a Red-tail Boa from my brother and had my son work it off, so that was his snake, even though I still paid for his feeders. FF to 4 years ago when my then roommate...

Re: ball python or a california king snake?

I'd say it's nearly unanimous. A King would be the way to go. I like the variable patterns and colors of Kings. I also like them for their better feeding responses as well as their more active,...

Re: Mars Since July

Not sure exactly but my guess is that he's about doubled his size. I will take a closer look tonight.
