New to Snake World

Hi Everyone, I just got my first snake. Ball python probably about 3 months old I think. I have the terrarium set up with a heat lamp and a heat matt. My question is do I have to keep the air temperature at 80F or just the surfaces? With the heat lamp I can heat the air to 80F but then the surfaces on the hot side get to 95F. With just the heat mat I can get the surfaces to any temp but the air is always around 72F.

Hope this makes sense. Just wondering how much the air temperature matters.
