Unknown/Mistreated snake!?

Hi guys
My friend cleans houses... and she sent me the pictures of this snake... that looks dried out and neglected.
I thought maybe it was a hog nose and supposed to look like this..
But they also had a fish in a bowl that dried up so much the fish was stuck lying on its side so i'm skeptical!
I hope its not a dried out corn snake?
What should she do? I told her to mist it with warm water when shes there...

Sad, she has to take care of peoples pets in almost every house she cleans...

Re: Unknown/Mistreated snake!?

How the hell do people get away with this....it's a corn snake, with what looks like a really bad case of nose rub and possibly even mouth rot....

Re: Unknown/Mistreated snake!?

This should be reported as animal abuse. I think it should be put down, sad to say.

I don't really think euthanizing is necessary right now, this animal deserves a chance with someone who will actually care for it properly... There have been snakes in far worse shape that make outstanding recoveries...

Re: Unknown/Mistreated snake!?

what sthat person should do is give the snake to someone who can take care of it, because they obviously can't..
what this snake needs is to see a VET, but I doubt they will do that so....

- first thing that is needed is a much bigger cage, if not then a big /long rubbermaide bin
- get rid of that rock/wood/fake grass matt and let the snake on damp paper towels with a proper hide
- make sure to keep a clean and sterile enviroment with humidity at the recommended %for the species
- open it's mouth to see if it has an infection, if so !! this should be cleaned with a diluted chlorhexidine rinse and most likely the snake will need antibiotics to help it clear things up
- depending on how bad the nose is, the use of a triplle antibiotic polysporin can help ease things up

she can try to tell the owner all this, i'm sure they won't care since seeing the state it's in !!! people like them should'nt be keeping any animals
one day she will walk in that house and the poor snake will just be dried up and dead.

that cage is soo small for the snake that it must be stressed out trying to find a way out (nose rubbing) with any luck, it still feeds..

That is really sad, poor creature. Before we jump all over the owner and convince the cleaning lady to something drastic, we should look at the facts. Those wounds look healed and quite old. Are we sure the owner did not rescue the snake? I think the cleaning lady should ask the owners what happened to the snake. I also don't know if you should be suggesting that she mist it as this could increase the likelihood of infection.

Re: Unknown/Mistreated snake!?

This makes me really sad. They must take it to the vet inmediately.

This is terrible. I agree that this should be reported as animal abuse. The poor thing hardly even looks like a corn snake anymore. Sometimes people can be incredibly cruel.

Re: Unknown/Mistreated snake!?

I'm with MesoCorney, before we start judge the owners we should be confident that it's really mistreated by this people, and not by the previous owners.
I only agree that the tank looks too small for that snake.

Re: Unknown/Mistreated snake!?

OH WOW
I Cant believe its a corn..... so sad.
Thanks for the advice, she's going to talk to the owners before doing anything drastic.
If they don't listen we found an animal cruelty/neglect hotline to call, worst case scenario.
That would be a tough one though, she could lose her job over it... but its totally willing to for the sake of the snake.

Re: Unknown/Mistreated snake!?

That poor corn! I agree that we don't really know whether the current owners are responsible for this, but looking at the cage it's in and considering the neglected fish they also have I think it's pretty likely that they are the ones at fault. Hopefully the snake doesn't have an infection. A nose rub that bad might not ever heal completely as is.

Wow, that is the epitome of animal cruelty! I am surprised the snake can breathe bc I see no nostrils!!! Someone should be prosecuted. I sure hope the antibiotics can help and the snake wont need surgery.
