help field herping in ny
what species of snakes and other reptiles might i find in the finger lakes region of ny. im located near watkins glen, ny if that helps. i always see garter snakes and some times red belly. i have also heard red bellys are poisonous but i research a little and forud the arent.

I live in the same exact part of NY, Sugar Hill is my back yard.
I see garters, Red bellies, Dekayi, Smooth greens, milks and black rats.

I find them in my yard, by log piles, meads creek, places like that.
look under things.
If you have a big yard, lay flat stuff down and leave it.
After a board has been laying on the ground a few weeks, there is almost always something underneath.

found a beautiful garter snake last night but too fast to get pics aggressive lil fella though. he was definitely a beaut
