Baby Hondo enclosure ??

I am picking up a Hondo tangerine baby this week sometime that a woman had a local reptile education group find a home for. S/he looks pretty small in the one picture I saw of him. I can put together a shoe box sized RUB or I have a 20 that already has heating that I just need to connect to a thermostat. I have had other baby snakes, but not a milk snake in particular, so not experienced in their typical preferences. I know with my hognose I was able to put in the 20 and fill with hides and clutter and she was comfortable. Could I do the same for this little guy? Also, I'm reading conflicting heating requirements. Most care sheets say 90, but forums I'm seeing 85 is preferred. This will actually be my granddaughters first snake when she is old enough to start handling (I also have a very docile cornsnake that is a dream to handle), so I want to keep this little guy especially happy.

You could put it in the 20 if it has enough hides. Give it a few inches of substrate because it may feel more comfortable burrowing at first. Hondurans, like most milk snakes, are excellent escape artists and they WILL find the way out if there is one. Make sure the entire enclosure is secure and the lid is firmly secured our weighted down.

Re: Baby Hondo enclosure ??

Thank you. Just picked him up this afternoon so I added the stuff he had in his small enclosure that he came in, which was not heated, along with stuff I had lying around. He seems to be using all the space now. I'm sure I'll change around as I get to know him and what he seems to be using or avoiding.

Good looking snake. Looks like it has plenty enough hides.
