How big is your encloser? And what style are you going for? An idea that would be a bit difficult but would look really nice is making it a vivarium.

I agree with ReptiWorldWide - a vivarium would be nice. Plus, if you add isopods you won't have to cleanup any waste!

I made one from my kingsnake. Here it is a while back:

Unfortunately, some of the plants haven't fared so well because they are being munched on by my isopods...

I second the idea of making bioactive setups. They look so nice and your snake will love them.

Nice vivarium, @PanUzasny

Thanks, MnGuy. I'd love to eventually have a paludarium for some garter snakes - do you work with garters? Is that something they'd like.

Oh by the way, vitejte lindau. Prave jsem videl ze jste z CR. Jsem bydlel v Praze, Olomouci a Uherskem Hradisti za rok a taky v Bratislave za rok.

Yeah, I keep two garter snakes. But I have them in a bioactive setup much like yours with a large water bowl. I’d love to try a paladarium at some point, but my tank (40 breeder) is too small for a healthy-sized built-in water feature. They defecate in their water much too often to make a small, fixed water feature hygienic, in my opinion.

I’d prefer a tank large enough to accommodate a large water section with a filter and a built-in drain in the bottom that would allow you to completely empty the water and rinse out the section regularly.

In the end, garters are not aquatic snakes and do fine with large water bowls.
