Exclamation Duct tape ok

well i went to go open my black rat snakes enclosure and sliced my finger pretty bad and deep on the clips. so i was wondering, is it ok to put duct tape on them so that it doesnt happen again? theyre new and really sharp. i just dont want to have this happen again.

Re: Duct tape ok

Never use tape on a snake cage. I don't even allow it in my snake room. I seen a Ball python that got stuck to some duct tape skin itself alive trying to get off of it.

If the clips are metal file them.

Re: Duct tape ok

Duct tape is not okay. No adhesives in general.

You have a thread from 4 days ago introducing yourself, and in which you also ask for help about your rat snake ALREADY having duct tape stuck to it and losing a few scales from removing it.

Do what wrecker said and file the clips, or go and get a tank with a sliding lid.

Re: Duct tape ok

emery boards for fingernails work awesome for sanding off sharp edges.

Re: Duct tape ok

cant remember the brand. but its outside of the cage keeping the lid down. so theres no way the snake could get stuck to it.

and when i got my texas, when i went to take her out there was duct tape stuck on her.

I only mentioned your rat snake injury from duct tape to kind of bring forth the dangers of using tape of any kind for things around your snake enclosures.

I believe I know what kind of clips you are talking about, and honestly I would still sand them down even though the tape would not be accessible to the snake.

The emery boards, as posted above, are a great recommendation to do this.

IMO, the duct tape would eventually wear off, make things sticky, tear through or some other type of complication and you would still have the sharp edges underneath to deal with when that does happen.
