Garter Snake Food Questions

Is it or is it not healthy to feed a garter snake a rodent free diet?

I've heard of some people using thawed silver side fish and worms. Would adding vitamin supplements cover their needs?

I found this recipe and if that's a viable option I would definitely use it.

How often do they have to be fed?

If feeding rodents isn't an option, can a garter snake be kept happy & healthy?

Re: Garter Snake Food Questions

I’m still a new garter keeper (a little under 1.5 years) but I feed mine a rotation of earthworms and frozen-thawed silversides. I occasionally dust their food with a multi-vitamin, calcium, and calcium with D3.

The best place to get garter advice is on Facebook groups or to search old threads on the Thamnophis forum. People don’t tend to post or respond too often on that forum, but the old threads are great.

Good luck.
