What size bulb for 40 breeder?

Hey Everyone, my cousin has a 40 breeder with an under tank heater, and recently his bulb burnt out. He had a 150 watt bulb apparently, I personally think that is way to strong maybe the reason why he can't ever keep his humidity up enough for his snake to make a full complete shed.

The tank is 16 inches high if not mistaken, so wouldn't a 75 watt basking bulb along with the under tank heater be efficient? Or should he get another 150 watt?
Unless there reading the watts on the lamp and not the bulb lol

I use ceramic heat bulbs on several enclosures, with cypress mulch to help maintain humidity. I use 100 watt bulbs, and they're quite warm enough for the basking spots.

If he has a uth then it should be regulated by a thermostat first of all. Ceramic heat emitters work fine if what you want is heat and no light. If you want light and heat you need a bulb. What type of animal are you housing in the 40 breeder?

I'm gonna bet it's a ball python but I've seen people ask questions about leopard geckos in a corn snake forum so I'm not sure.

I would say that 150 watt is a bit much on that short of a tank. I would say that a heat pad along with a thermostat and covered top should be enough to hold in most heat. If you want a lamp use one of those fluorescent hoods and use a non heat emitting bulb. What kind of setup does your friend have (what substrate?) any unique decorations. Where is the snake sitting most of the time within the cage. What is the overall temp room?
