Re: Can Anyone say PURPLE !!!!!
Awwww, gosh they are so gorgeous and adorable. I LOVE baby GTPs. I just bought a male Biak cross that will come Thursday for my female of unknown origin. I can't wait and hope to have babies next year. Congrats on your new little ones! I love the maroon ones.

Re: Can Anyone say PURPLE !!!!!
Killer! They are so dark in the hatchling photos, wow. Beauties
Why do some hatch out red/purple and some hatch yellow? I've read before that the red hatchlings are actually next to invisible against green foliage under infrared light, (I think that was it) which some predators see in. Interestingly, the green adults apparently stick out like a sore thumb. Is that accurate?

Red and yellow mimic the flowers in the forest and those colors are actually harder for birds and other attackers to see believe it or not. The green adults would blend in with the green foliage. They'll only stick out like a sore thumb if they are out in the open. Not all types produce red babies. Aru babies are exclusively yellow. Red are prized because they generally produce some of the more interesting animals. My Sparks was a red baby. All high blue and super blue animals were red babies.

Yes this is absolutely true. The study was done by David Wilson over a 3 year period. He provided an extensive report on other very interesting data as well.

I must have missed this reply before. Thanks! I thought it was really neat! I'll have to check into it more...
But if this is the case then why do they change to green at all? Which predators would have infrared vision and not hunt adult GTPs as well?

Re: Can Anyone say PURPLE !!!!!
Adults are far larger than the small neonates and the potential predator list drops. They still blend into the foliage, being the same color, but it's harder to "hide" a large red object that stands out due to size, then a large green object that completely blends in. Babies, aside from being a color that is hard to see by birds, also look like some of the bright yellow and red flowers that grow in the region. A large python would not look like a flower, it would look like a big snake. The color would no longer be of benefit. It's like a hunter wearing hunter orange. While deer can't see the color, if you have a large amount of flat orange on, you will look like a human standing there. Wear cammo orange and you'll blend as you pattern will be broken up.
