Exclamation Oceanic carpet python limp/open mouth

I recently bought my new python, and I went to feed her, she missed her strike and hit the glass on her tank. Her jaw is now open and has been for the past 24 hours. I’m assuming she broke her jaw or just put it out of place. She keeps “yawning”. Is this something that requires human help to fix? Or should I just let her rest and try to fix it herself? Looking for some pointers as the only close animal hospital around me is 1hour away and walking threw the door they charge you 150$ then they start to Diogenes the issue at 175$ am hour. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Re: Oceanic carpet python limp/open mouth

How hard did the hit sound? I have some of my snakes hit the glass hard and then they might have an open mouth for a few minutes but not overnight. In fact, I had my 1.0 Woma Python hit the glass so hard during feeding the other night I think he knocked himself out...he was laying there upside down and not moving until I finally opened the top to offer him food. He eventually took the food, albeit rather gingerly.

I wouldn't worry too much but keep an eye on it...I think that after a day or two it should be good to go. They can stretch/dislocate their jaws to take in very large prey so I seriously doubt it did any serious damage.

Today is the 3rd or 4th day and no improvement. Mouth is still open. She is drinking water still. So not all is bad

Definitely needs a vet visit if it’s been multiple days. Jaw is likely broken and painful.
