Again that orange and black snake is amazing! The colors are sick. I want one just like that. And you said the orange changes to red when they get older. Sick! Even better! :P

Cheers guys. Holderm do they have many aussie elapids in private collections over there as i have never realy seen anyone post pics or tell stories.
I am going to try and breed both of these. The collett (black and orange) is 4-5 years away from breeding, but the australian copperhead (the first one) is 3 so give him another year or so. Hopefully i will have some stunners from these two.
I love the copperhead as he is just so calm and easy to handle, the same goes with most of my elapidae but of course there are a few i just wont pick up with my hands.
The collett is definetely the favourite when most people see my collection as the colours really pop in real life.

Wow, you're very lucky that they are tame enough to handle. I'd still be too scared to do it though.

I think of elapidae being no different to pythons or boas. If you handle them with respect and dont make any quick or jerky movements they will nearly never bite. I dont want to say wont as i know when you play with fire you will get burnt.
I just love how these guys hardly ever sit still and always put on a good show at feeding time.

I think of them similar but many that I keep would nail you if given the chance. Not many here keep aussie venomous because they are very costly. They all have to be imported and do to their rariety demand high prices. Not venomous but I'd kill for spencers monitors (one day)! They are between $2,500 - 5kea plus shipping from over seas! I love aussie herps but would rather spend my money elsewhere at this point.

Yes the australian copperhead is venomous, i do believe they are more deadly than the american copperhead.
I cant believe the australian species are so expensive. I would of only thought that due to the antivenom being fairly uncommon that they wouldn't be a popular choice. Spencers monitors here are so cheap and can't understand that they fetch such a price since breed so readily

Aussie herps are expensive because Australia doesn't allow exports. The people that do have them demand top dollar. Seems everything that gets smuggled out of OZ ends up in Germany. Purchasing anything overseas is usually costly. Eventually I'll keep many aussie species but that's down the road. I'm pretty sure this year was the first year Inland Taipans were available in the US (I'm talking actually available on US soil, already imported). I have never seen copper heads or tiger snakes.... I want to keep tiger snakes personally and I'll be seeking them out once my cobra collection is finished. I hope to get all of the philipine cobras this year along with some really rare africans.

I cant understand our government sometimes. As we are not allowed to keep exotics even though the corn snake is in its 1000's in wild populations already, the same goes with export if they are captive bred then why not export some.
Tigers are an awesome species to keep, they become very docile and some act and climb like pythons lol. I am hanging out for my young ones to become yearlings
