Re: Hey need some ideas for a lizard

Leopard Geckos make great starter pets, and are really easy to care for once you have the setup. Another option albeit a slightly more challenging lizard would be the Bearded Dragons. More challenging mostly due to setup but a very interesting lizard.

Re: Hey need some ideas for a lizard

Green Anoles are more challenging to care for. The low price in pet stores does not mean that its a low maintenance pet (although some pet stores imply this.)

The green anole is native to America. So its very easy for the pet stores to get a hold of them as there are many around. Secondly these lizards breed incredibly easily, meaning that captive stocks are easy to acquire. These factors decrease how much the pet store has to pay for them. This allows the pet stores to sell to customers at low prices.

people then buy them because they are cheap. Because they are cheap people often treat them as throw-away pets, the fact that they aren't the simplest to care for aggravates the fact.

Leopord Geckos are your best bet. If I were to ever get lizards I would get Leo's.

Re: Hey need some ideas for a lizard

Prior even reading the other posts I was going to say Leopard Geckos the best begginer lizard as far as I'm concerned. They are low maintenance compared to most other lizards & are easily handled. A Monitor as suggested in the one post is a bad idea for a first lizard & they should only be kept by experienced keepers, they require specialized husbandry & due to their extremely defensive nature can be very difficult to handle or even to clean their enclosure with them around. If a monitor was to be chosen a Savanna would be a not bad one to start. Also Blue Tounged Skinks are fairly easy to care for, but require more husbandry than a Leo would too. Beardies initial cost is more because they require special lighting & more heat & well as a more complex diet which equlas extra husbandry. Anoles as suggested & already pointed out do not make good starters. They are usually wild caught & do not thrive & are not very good for handling at all. Anyhow when you ask most experienced folks what lizard for a starter they will most likely suggest a Leopard Gecko just like they would suggest a Corn for a first time snake. Mark

I agree with everything Mark has to say. I will add that fat tail geckos are also great starter lizards!

Re: Hey need some ideas for a lizard

I would have to Agree with everyone else leopard geckos are the best I have two a male and a female and soon will have a large number of them but I just bought all the stuff for incubating the eggs and spent about $40 so as far as I'm concerned leo's are the best but get one as a baby they tend to bond better I find.
